The motor trend video was shot at my old duty station that's been closed down in southern orange county in the city of Irvine, Ca. Made a visit back in Jan and the place is almost completely torn down, brought tears to my eyes.:flag1:

Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro had two 8,000 feet long runways and two 10,000 feet long runways located on the 5 freeway not far from the "Y" intersection of the 5 and 405 freeways.

It beat it by a tenth and you consider that "destroyed?"

Heck, even if you look at best trap speeds between the two, 118 vs 111 is a difference, but is it a 17,000 dollar difference?

I think not.

Agreed but only for the first 1/8th. After that the power in the GT500 is just too much.

But, I am stoked that the ss hung in there. another 12 sec run. Awesome.

Great Vid. And I'm not buying that mustang guys see the gt500 as a direct competitor to the SS. My guess is Motor trend needed an excuse for this comparison...

The 29 feet win margin is approx. two car lengths. Still not too shaby. I agree with the earlier post regardint the tinny sounding exhaust during burnout's. Also, the Mustang would be a great little roadcourse car.

They were bored... Everybody knows the results of this race. It's simple physics. Just a bunch of guys with nothing better to do than pit two really fast cars against each other. A job I would not mind having by the way.

Trap speed shows the true power of a vehicle. Are you aware that Stock C6's trap around 116mph? 118mph is pretty significant. I guess the driver of a Toyota Camry (101mph trap) may be equally unimpressed by the Camaro SS (111mph trap).

Interesting to me how the comparos are all over the place. Car and Driver preferred the Mustang GT to the Camaro SS while Motor Trend preferred the the SS to the GT. Take it up a notch to the GT500 and, in Motor Trend's opinion, the GT500 arguably eeks out a less convincing win than the GT did over the SS in the Car and Driver issue, although none of those victories was a landslide by any means.

I think the most telling aspect of all of these comparos is that all of them seem to be wins by a nose so to speak.

If the GT500 was running the same tires, it would have widened it's margin of victory significantly. That being said, the SS is impressive and I'd rather have it with or without a supercharger over the GT500, but that's JMHO.
To the credit of the Motor Trend Review, they did use the stock tires both cars came with.. You'd have to spend more money on the GT500 to give it the same quality tires the Camaro SS has.. The Camaro did a good job keeping up and in no way is humiliated by this defeat. On the contrary, for less than $7,000 more, you can get a faster car than the GT500's base price....

Even the GT500 v Hennesy Camaro comparison comes to mind.

This just proves that people should buy what they like! That's what really matters anyway when making such a big purchase.

Trap speed is great, but it doesn't win races. (E.T.) wins races. I also have a feeling a Camaro SS can beat a Camry by more than .1 tenth in a street race 1/4 mile. But this video shows (stock vs stock), the Camaro can hold its own prettty good against a Cobra GT500.
