Am I doing something wrong here?
So... left rather early for work this morning and decided to find a place to drag that was isolated with no cars... because I haven't had a real chance to see my 0-60 times.
So... I hit the button twice (go into competitive mode), put the shifter in "M" (sport mode), and punch it. Car goes quite fast, but no wheel spin, no tire chirping, nothing. I try again, this time I hold the break until 1500 RPMs.... nothing again... car goes fast, but no tire slippage. I hate to hop on these bandwagons, but is this good or bad? I know sticky tires are good... but a good sign of power is so much torque the tires can't grab. It was 58 degrees this morning with very low humidity. 912 miles on the car. Edit - For each run, I would put the car back in P so I could make sure to get the "M" mode back to 1st gear. I'd record my times, but I have no equipment. My cellphones don't have camera's either. Thoughts?

58 degrees you say ? Tag we need a middle finger icon lol j/k you lucky man
You know I have wondered this same thing. Try something next time you are out and get a chance turn everything off apply on the brake just a little give it some gas and let her rip if the tires dont spin when you do that then yeah I would wonder myself. however the way you are doing it if your car is factory and doesnt have a tune thats normal imo. Even with a tune the car sticks very well. Gm has deisigned the IRS/rearend in this car with great technology. Of course I would still love to have a Live rear axle for drag racing purposes but for everyday driving and the performance driving we give our cars this IRS is perfect keep us updated on what you come up with. |

Hey guys,
I could be wrong, but it was my impression that the whole purpose of the competitive mode was to prevent wheel spin. Less wheel spin, means better traction, means better 0-60 times. You want to peel out? Turn off competitive mode. Should have NO problem breaking them loose then... Jack

Do this.
Put the shifter in M (Sport mode - not using tap shifts) with the TC off. If its cool and dry outside you should get wheel spin off the line from a dead stop. Also, you dont have to put the transmission in P (park) for any of the modes. It sounds like your using M (manual -tap shift) mode. Because (tap shift mode) is the only mode that starts you out in 2nd gear. And even in that mode, you can just tap shift down into 1st gear while your still moving (don't have to be stopped or have the shifter in P). If your in M (Sport mode) it will stay in sport mode until you either move the shifter up to D (drive) or hit the tap shifts M (manual - tap shift mode). Then to return to M (Sport mode) all you have to do is quickly move the shifter up to D and back to M (which can be done while moving at any speed). Yeah, hold down the traction control button for about seven seconds, it turns everything off. But then you better know what you're doing! Good luck. One other thing, get a time machine, go back in time and buy a Camaro with a LS3 and a manual transmission!!

Comp Mode, is like launch control, you will not spin in this mode. I've been playing with all my modes. Comp Mode is awesome for drag and road racing. If you want to do a power brake and get some spin, just hit your TC button once (no TC) then do your burn out. This car is setup to hook the road no matter what you do from a dead stop. But there are ways around it. Your car is actually fine and doing what it is suppose to do. I wouldn't worry. |

Also, when you put it in "M" mode, just downshift to 1st from a stop. You don't have to keep putting it in park.

Don't I have to use the paddle shifters at that point then? What's the point in buying the auto, if I'm going to paddle shift anyway?
