Interesting calculations - top speed per gear
http://www.car-videos.net/tools/spee...B1=Recalculate
I think a 7k redline would work much better .. I have a feeling stock, we will be shifting right before crossing the 1/4 mile line .. .57 6 gear = dump the 3.45 and get a 3.90!

I think the tire correction factor is a bit much for a 40 series tire, if you don't use it you get 114mph at the top of third gear (at 6600). That should be plenty to get through the 1/4 in 3 gears. Interestingly the gearing for this car and the 4th gen 6 speed with the 3.42 rear end is similar, as at 6000rpm at the top of third gear comes out to 113 mph (with a 25.6" tire). I don't know how close that is to people's real world experience though.
Either way the auto 2010 SS has a serious advantage here, as it will shift into 4th at 102mph, so it is actually geared quite a bit more aggressively.

I think I remember reading GMHTP's review of a G8 GT test and they mentioned if shifted just before the lights too, so that makes sense.

Wow...seeing that makes me want to invest in new rear-end gearing right off the bat. That is a bit tall.

110 in 3rd gear is a lot. A 3.90 gear will be one of the first mods I do.

276mph is fine, now if I know that if I bump up power to 1500HP or so I won't have a problem with running out of gear...O.K. it might be a bit high. I can see them wanting to max out M.P.G.'s, but a little shorter gearing shouldn't hurt that much.

The fastest I have even been is about 165 mph back in the summer of "74" when I was 17yrs old and in a brand new 1974 Road Runner with a 440 6pk back before radar was around. My friends who moved to Tenn. after H.S. came up for a visit and we were racing my brother in his 1972 Chevelle with a smaller V8 from the Crittenden to Dry Ridge exit the last mile or so. It was about 3am and we went pass him like he was sitting still and he (my brother) went off the ramp at Dry Ridge around 120mph. There was a COP on top of the bridge who came after us and not having radar back then pulled of over and gave us the riot act. We had slowed down or he would haven't been the one pulling us over. He told us that he estimated us driving by at 85 or 90 mph when we seen us. Luckily my brother and friend were the only cars on I-75 at the time. When we did slow down to 70mph I thought I could just open the door and walk away. The officer let us go with a warning but said he was calling down I-75 for other troopers to be on the lookout for us. This car will be heavier than the car I was in but believe me when you get going that fast it isn't the smartest thing to do because unless the suspension package is built right you could be lifted off the air really quick.
Take your camaro to a track and open it up but not on today's roads. Be safe and not stupid like I was. It isnt' worth it in the long run. Just my $0.02 |

dont forget the direct exhaust injection to keep the motor pumped with air.

Top speed per gear?
I know I have seen this some where here about 8 months ago.. but I havent been able to find it.
What is the top speed for each gear when the electronic rev-limiter kicks in. I believe 1st is 29, 2nd is 60, 3rd is 105...
