Which would be better exhaust? 2.5" or 3"
Have on order IOM 2SS/RS M6 and wanted to go ahead and get CAI and catback exhaust. With just the CAI which would be better for me? The 2.5" or the 3"? Not sure with just CAI if I would lose performance with back pressure. Trying to decide between Cherry Bomb 2.5" and Flowmaster 3". Any input would be greatly appreciated.

cherry bomb exhaust is crap IMO and the flowmaster is not that much better. but they sound okay so if you don't mind having pipes that will eventually rust on the outside as a compromise to price then i would choose flowmaster over cherry bomb. plus the cherry bomb sound will change for the worse over time cuz they use fiberglass filling, flowmaster sound will never change b/c they use baffles.
both are 409 stainless steel and painted black. if you want quality you need to find an exhaust that is 304 stainless steel. magnaflow sells both 3" and 2.5" cat-backs Corsa and Borla only sell 2.5" MBRP only sells 3" it has been proven you don't really NEED 3" unless you have a high horsepower vehicle making 500rwhp+

i would go with a 2.5" exhaust, only way you should go with a 3" exhaust is if you are running a supercharger. since your not the 2.5" will be fine

If your only mildly modifying 2.5 inch is all you need.

i always like to think of the 'what if"......go for the 3" and never have to worry about anything else, not like your worse off with teh 3"....who knows what your doing 2-3 years down the line

problem with 3" and a stock motor is reduced back pressure creates less torque in the lower RPM range.

+1 and also with a 3" exhaust you get alot more drone than if you had a 2.5".

You have no idea what you are talking about. Have you researched the Cherry Bomb exhaust? It uses a single chamber muffler design. They do use aluminized steel which over a long period of time will show some rust. 409 stainless will show rust over time as well. In 10 years when I am ready to replace my exhaust I may see some rust. BFD. Link for reference comparing the different alloys exhausts are made from: http://www.pypesexhaust.com/stainless-steel.html Now for plenty of facts and user experiences with the Cherry Bomb exhaust: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56584 Check your facts next time. To the OP's question of 2.5" vs. 3", unless you plan to go forced induction the 3" exhaust will not be needed. Really comes down to what you are comfotable with. Both are great buys. Hope that helps. I like the magnaflow systems they are a top notch. I installed long tube headers and 3" exhaust, It does seem to have a little bit less power on the freeway in 6th gear when cruising than it did with the 2.5 inch. It seems like they need a little back pressure for the low end torque but everyone on here has different opinions about it. Flowmaster doesnt flow very well and rust though, I dont if cherry bomb does.

Thanks for the input. I didn't realize that the Cherry Bomb was made of aluminized steel and will probably not go in that direction. I have listened to so many clips now and it is a hard decision again. I am kinda liking the Borla and Corsa also now. Hopefully I can make my mind up and have it before the car gets here. Thanks again
