questions on the 2022 configuration 1SS or LT1

I'm considering buying a new Camaro... Have a few questions:

1. is the 1SS actually faster than the LT1? I'm seeing reports of 1/2 second 0-60 times faster with the 1SS. What makes that difference? Seems like same powertrain configuration and the LT1 is probably a little lighter. Doesn't seem to make sense.

2. Does the manual trans version include the cylinder deactivation feature? I'd like to avoid that feature.

3. Manual trans - I've seen a few reports of having issues with shifting and clutch on low mileage 1 year or newer cars. Is there something behind this, or just bad luck/hard use?

1. SS has a higher top speed and summer performance tires 275 wide stock. Lt1 has a 155 speed limiter because of all season 245 wide tires. LT1 is faster than an SS when you upgrade LT1 tires and remove LT1 speed limiter.

2. All LT1 and SS have the cylinder deactivation hardware from the factory regardless of auto or manual. The difference is that hardware is turned off on the manual cars.

3. I have had zero issues with my manual, shifts perfect. One of the best manual transmissions I have ever owned. I dont baby it, but I have over 20 years experience operating manual transmission in sports, muscle, trucks, sedans and econoboxes. The TR6060 transmission in this car is awesome.

Power to weight ratio combined with a lower drag coefficient. The LT1 is more aerodynamic than the SS. Remember that the SS is a track car with oem track warranty, track cars require downforce.

All things equal, a tenth or two in the quarter mile, the gap will be much greater in the 1/2 mile or more when the downforce of the SS carries a higher burden than the LT1 with the better drag coefficient for top speed.

You might find the weights and drag coefficients online, but you won't find anything regarding the LT1 being faster because only stock cars are ever compared. Stock, the SS is faster only because it has no speed limiter and better tires. Remove the LT1 speed limiter and put the same tires the SS comes with on an LT1 and voila, LT1 is faster than the SS.

GM states the weight difference between the two trims as about 65lbs. Good luck noticing that real world. I can't imagine the aero being measurably different in looking at both cars. As you already noticed the SS does test faster, likely due to better tires. They're the same car with the same motor, so of course are going to be about the same speed. The SS has a few more std features (and diff front end of course) which increases weight and price by a bit, that's about it. Both great trims.

Callaway, remember this is purely straight line stuff. The SS (and moreso, the 1LE) still rule on the road courses and leave the LT1 in the dust with their superior braking and additional downforce aiding in high speed turns.

Nice escape from providing details.

To fj5gtx: Enjoy either that you choose.

The aero makes a big difference reaching top speeds, the LT1 would have an advantage over the SS as they approach top speed. Remember there are systems in place on the SS (front brake ducting, rear spoiler, etc creating an artificial air wall that slows the SS down at high speeds. These are non existent on the LT1 thereby allowing a lower drag coefficient which is favorable for top speed.

Maybe if you compare how much slower a 1LE is at top end compared to an SS, you will understand what I am trying to explain.

I respectfully disagree. The 65 lbs may show up in the 3rd decimal on sheet of paper but wont make any difference on the track.

However, Launch controls, front brake locks, steering ratios, mag ride suspension, performance shifting, downward force in turns, brembo braking; Those are tangible in a race and the LT1 would be at a disadvantage.

Bottom line, OP. Buy what you like, no one will judge you. You can research the additional performance equipment as you go up the line from the LT1, 1SS, 2SS, +1LE, and ZL1. They are in that order for a reason.
