Sealed Transmission?? Transmission fluid doesn't need change until 150k miles? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

So I was at a local dealer yesterday looking at the Rally Yellow Automatic 2LT they have on display and one of the salesman mentioned something interesting to me. I had popped the hood and was looking inside when he pointed out that there is no dipstick to check the transmission fluid. I didn't search around too extensively but I did not see anything that popped out. The salesman said that the reason for this is because the Camaro has something called a "sealed transmission". He said that the fluids in the transmission are supposed to last up to 150,000 miles but that it might be prudent to ask a dealer to check them at 100,000 miles.

Has anyone heard anything along these lines? I find it really hard to believe that I will never need to add more tranny fluid until 150,000 miles!

hhhmmm! Worth looking into but I would imagine there is a level sensor in the tranny to monitor it!

... not sure about the Camaro, but my wife's car... a 2000 Lincoln LS... also has no dipstick. It is "sealed" (but ther are drain and fill methods)... the transmission calls for no scheduled maintenance unless you tow and uses a synthetic fluid. 146,600 miles later... perfect.

Yeah most transmissions are coming this way now. The only way to check them is a small weap hole on the side of the tranny. The 150k im not sure about tho. From what was posted here its good for the life of the car.

Sounds like you check the tranny fluid like you check the oil level on a motorcycle!

Um, I check the oil level on my bike witht the dipstick.

Lots of cars have sealed trannies now. No biggy.

My 2005 Mustang and 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona RT has no dip stick. I believe mostly all new cars are this way. Need to be checked around 100K miles. Always keep an eye on the floor to see if anything is leaking. The trans. seal under my Dodge leaked two weeks after I purchased it. Still under warr. they fixed it. Yeah now buying a Camaro. Always a Camaro fan, hated when they stopped in 2002. Had 1995, 1998, 2000 and 2002 Camaro before I went to 2003 and 2005 Mustang, now 2006 Charger.

OH! Excuse me.... BMW and Honda motorcycles have the same little peep hole for checking oil levels!

I was going to buy a Goldwing back in 2000 but walked in the BMW show room and saw the K1200LT and bought it on the spot......... it helped that the interest rate at the time was .9 and so I really couldn't resist!

Saturn Sky is sealed too. After we got it home I was looking under the hood and couldn't find it. Called the dealer and sure enough no dipstick on the car except when I'm driving.

I agree with you on the car thing but the bikes, no can do. After being an MSF instructor for a few years and riding many different bikes along with getting older (wiser), I chose a bike that fits my needs but that doesn't mean I don't like Harley's!

My 2005 CTS had this as does my 2009. Requires special procedure to check the level and to add/fill. Must be on hoist, engine running to check. About 3 pages in service manual on change procedure.

Matter of fact I wanted to change the ATF over to synthetic in my 2005 and the Cadi dealer refused to do it saying the factory fill was good for 100,000 miles and does not need to be changed if no problem exists.

I think they are doing this to try to cut down on problems. According to my service manager whom I know well, they have seen a big uptick in trans problems since these quick lubes started selling transmission flush's. The quick lube part time oil jockey sells a the flush to some lady, her trans fails a week later and she is back at the dealer for warranty.

The only way to check them is a small weap hole on the side of the tranny. The 150k im not sure about tho. From what was posted here its good for the life of the car.
