Pontiac
I heard that they're getting rid of Pontiac. Does this mean I can still buy one in the future?

There is no official word that they are getting rid of Pontiac. things are tough, but have faith and patience.

Not sure Pontiac is dead, but I'm sure it will look a lot different if it makes it. The last I heard was going to be a niche brand, but who knows what that will look like.

Yes, you can still buy one, and regardless of what happens to Pontiac in the future, your warranty and service will remain intact.

I am not going to confirm or deny this rumor, but I just wonder why you asked the question this way. If they do get rid of it, how exactly would you buy one in the future? Certainly, if it remains as a niche brand you should be able to buy one, but there may be less models to buy.

Not getting rid of it. They're shrinking it down to 2-3 cars, and selling them through the Buick/GMC dealer network as a niche brand. So far is seems like G8 and Solstice have made the cut...not sure if there's a third........

Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

Apparently not. I remember that rumor...it seems to have been false, or if not then extremely overexaggerated. The Kappa twins may not be the most cost-effective cars GM builds...but they're not losing money on every one they sell.

And yes, GM does lose money for every Kappa sold. It's a very good platform, just expensive as hell.

I've also heard they might just be sold as a model here or there at Chevy dealers, leaving Buick and GMC to themselves. It makes sense to use that "niche" brand thing to bring hot vehicles from other parts of the world here with less risk and at lower volumes. The beautiful thing is since Pontiac no longer needs to support a full brand we won't have to see embarrassments like the G3, G5, Torrent, and Aztek again.
Unless the G8 sales numbers pick up with the rest of the market, I wouldn't expect a replacement after this product life cycle. However, since they want to market the Cruze as a practical, fuel efficient small car and therefore we might not get an SS version, perhaps they could bring the hot versions of the Astra here, especially if Ford brings its Focus RS. Cool possibilities.

I want to repeat our mantra: "your dealer is an idiot"... but that idea is just stupid enough to be likely to happen.
