I killed facebook

Well,

I work in an industry where social media can be a tool to end a career, as well as a means for people to find me (in particular the ones I DONT want to find me). I had been saying it for a while, and after having lunch with a coworker today I finally decided to deactivate my facebook account. I had facebook to keep in touch with family, but considering my mother passed away in January, I no longer have a need for it.

So far so good with the withdrawls. It'll be interesting to see how "out of the loop" I become, or to see reactions on peoples faces when they hear I-of-all-people have deactivated facebook.

Just felt like sharing

I am using Facebook less and less. Coincidentally, my usage of Facebook has been decreasing every since I lost my mother. It will be interesting to see what reactions you do get. It seems of little notice for those I know that I am seldom there. I just don't like giving access to my info to all those applications I used to use. I don't allow that access anymore. I check in occasioanlly for now. Whereas I LIVE on C5!

For people who are my age, 24, when you quit using social media to "talk" to these so called friends you will find out whom your real friends are... Now some of you are probably like well blah blah blah, WELL i grew up in the age of social media therefore it is practically engrained into everything my generation does. In fact when i purchased my car, i was receiving phone calls from people saying nice car and stuff then asking why i did not have facebook and that they had to see it on my little brothers. Oh well this is my rant about facebook. It is a career ender for people now a days. And after a fifth of basil haydens or eagle rare facebook is the worst thing for me talk about rants.....

Its not easy to quit fb because it is an addiction but hey you can... and Congrats

BTW i do not know how old you are but for me it cut 100% of the drama out of my life.

I have been off of Facebook almost 4 years. I never looked back. Anything important people get in touch personally. Facebook is like the Gong Show 99.9% Stupidity. I have a T shirt that says F@CK FACEBOOK, I get compliments whenever I wear it. I rip on it all the time and the fun bit is when people defend it like a religion. It's amazing when you're out of the loop just how stupid and moronic Facebook actually is. Congrats to the OP for kicking internet crack.

Nailed it right on the head... It pretty much is crack...

There has already been research into this that shows facebook addiction is just as bad if not worse than drugs making some people almost useless.

I have never Facebooked. And never plan on it. Seems like trouble waiting to happen for married people. I do just fine without it.

You deactivated it, but it's still there. Try logging in again in a month, or a year, and it will be activated. Facebook sucks.

While social media does have a few advanatages like contacting people you haven't seen in years but would have liked to and lost contact with, the (potential or real) disadvantages outweigh the benefits. I don't go there anymore and my life hasn't changed much because of it.

I deactivated my fb account after some people put some pictures from me on youtube in a "blackmail movie", with name, address, social security nr and other details, about two years ago in September.

Haven't looked back since, and couldn't be happier. It's not the end of the world...
