1LE Wheels in Gloss Black?

I have some minor curb rash on my wheels that I need to get fixed. I found a local guy who says he can make them like new for 125.00 each. He also says he can refinish them in a different color for the same cost. I'm frustrated at how my wheels always look dirty so quickly and they are difficult to clean. I have considered refinishing them in the gloss black finish like the Z28 wheels. Has anyone done this and if so are you happy with the gloss look and are they easier to clean? Pics would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking at getting my SS wheels powder coated wet black which is the highest gloss of black and I heard they are pretty easy to clean due to the gloss finish. Hope that helps. Here's a thread where JantzenOKC did his wheels in wet black and claims how easy it is to clean. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=422633

I did my Factory 1LE wheels in gloss. I like them. I too hated the dirty look all the time, even when clean. I used the Z28 center caps and they match perfect. You might be able to see them in the video in the link. The still shot with the mickeys are gloss black and they were dusty! But still cleaner than flat. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=420371

The hardest part in cleaning them is wiping around all the spokes. The finish won't change that. If anything, I'd think a gloss finish will show the dust buildup faster.

So it all boils down to how you want them to look when they are clean (satin or gloss). Personally, I prefer satin.

Thinking doing mine in black chrome: powdercoated with brighsilver and painted with a black tint clear. I have changed to the z28 black grill which is more glossy and I have a new wrap that is not as flat on the hood and wings.

Its finish also, if you have couple coats of clear and real good wax to fill the voids in the paint it will be like taking care of the body of your car. Hence Chrome wheels rock, easist wheels I ever took care of. But 1LE and chrome would be uh not pretty

The clear coat for gloss paint should make it easier to clean. Lower friction surface would make it easier to wipe the brake dust off.

1LE Wheels in Gloss Black?

Both finishes are double edge swords. The gloss are not any easier to clean. In fact you will have to take a bit more caution when cleaning. Scratches are more noticeable in the gloss then they are in the satin. BUT I do like the glossy finish.

jdrop01 Thanks that is helpful

Wired AVS Thanks for the pics. Love the car and the cam sounds wicked!

Chris1SSLE I agree and was thinking the smooth finish wouldn't hold the brake dust as easily

X25 agree with you

Im hoping to see a few more pics before making a final decision. I really like the way the wheels look on the Z28 but it may not look as good with the 1LE but my gut feel is they will look good and either hose off or wipe down easier as long as the finish is of good quality. I really appreciate all of you giving me your opinions

I agree ^

I have the Z28 replica mrr228's in glossy black. They look super all cleaned up, but what WiredAVS says about gloss showing scratches and the care needed in cleaning is spot on. Compared to the satin black 1LE wheels I can go an extra day or two before the brake dust makes them look flat.

Regardless of finish, you still have to wipe the entire wheel. The actual wiping, which you will have to do either way, is what takes all the time. I don't know about everyone else, but mine are not hard to clean. It just takes time wiping them down to get them clean. Having a gloss finish won't change that.

I had mine redone gloss. Absolutely love the look, but don't kid yourself, it's even more painful to keep clean and scratch free.
