short shifters are geneally a bit harder but have a much more connected/mechanical feel. The last one I had was a GMMG and it was awsome. I think I am going to try one of these if I can get a decent deal considering the features it has over the hurst and others.
http://www.billetproducts.com.au/new/lumina2.html Thier GTO shifter feels awsome and thier quality is top notch. |

It will look similar to the stock shifter only shorter.
Click on one of the cars, then Hurst shifter for pic and price. http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/se...o_sitelet.html |

Its not like you are moving a 150 lb rock with your little toe. Guys, as everyone will tell you, these shifters are wonderful. I have commented on here before, but in the 4th gen it totally transformed the car. It was a fairly easy swap, about 1 1/2 hours for me (not a mechanic - just fiddling around) The stock shifter was like rowing a boat. The effort to move the stick was marginally more. The biggest benefit (to me) was in the length of the throw and how it engaged into the gear. The engagement felt so much better and like I was moving steel versus plastic or rubber gears. It looks like this install is a little more complex, but again, I am not technician, it could be real easy.

However, it does depend on the application as far as how much effort they can be compared to stock. I have one in my '05 Mustang GT, and I do love it, but it is a super high effort to move (compared to stock). Car And Driver tested the Shelby GT (with factory Hurst short throw shifter) in the June 2007 issue and said this: "The Shelby also drew gripes for the Hurst shifter, which is so high-effort that it's difficult to make two-to-three and four-to-five upshifts." Mine has been in the car for 3 years now and after being fully broken in, I would not say the 2-3 and 4-5 upshifts are difficult at all. I would say that simply putting the shifter into 1st gear after stopping is sometimes a pain. But, Shifty is correct -- it's not like moving a 150 lb rock with your toe. More like moving a 10 lb rock.

JohnyCamaro (aka: John Cox from GMPP) spoke to us and his word IS as good as gold.
Can you get the white ball or T-Handle? I DO recall reading somewhere that this was available through GMPP IF you wanted it over the leather wrapped Hurst shifter. Is it hard to shift? Honestly, I couldn't say seeing as though we all have not driven the 5th Gen. I will say that in my 4th Gen, I would NEVER go for anything other than the Hurst. Hard to shift in a 4th Gen? HA! Not a chance! The purpose is to make it easier w/ quicker shifts...and I have yet to read a negative comment over this shifter. For all those contemplating getting a stick, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND ADDING THE HURST. |

Just FYI. Now that the Camaro is loaded in the catalog I was able to look up the shifter. GM rates the install at 1 labor hour and based on the pic, the only challenge will be removing the two front mounting arms throught the console without completely removing it. Hope that helps.

Hey guys just wanted to say that on the GMPP website they changed the pic of how the short throw looks, at least since the last time I was there (Which was admittedly a while ago.)
Looks pretty sharp to me http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/se...o_sitelet.html Click the dale jr car, then the shifter and the pic pops up |

Shifter
I ordered the short throw shifter and my dealer told me that it was a dealer installed option. If this is true, you should be able to keep the factory shifter as well. Is this not the case?
