I live in Austin, and traffic sucks here. But I still got a manual in my car and I've never been unhappy with that decision.

Everyone should own a manual once in their life. I had an '83 Mustang GT in high school and loved it. Then the family cars came, all automatics. Still drive a minivan and it's a nice change still from driving my manual SS. However, love my manual and wouldn't trade it for anything. It is a bit of a pain in heavy traffic but it's worth it IMHO.

Lived in Van Nuys for 10 years, then moved to Granada Hills. (Before I moved up North) I actually came down a few weeks ago to get my brakes done- here's my car at Van Nuys airport

well it sounds like you enjoyed it so id say for your next car you should get one. dont trade in your current car now or anything. as far as mastering it, if you mean just being able to drive around town without stalling i say 1 afternoon. if you mean beating an auto in a race lots of practice. either way its definatly a skill you should learn.

Manual > auto. I don't mean that in the performance sense because a properly built auto will rape a manual at the strip and dual clutch "semi" automatics will run shit at the road course. If you love driving, just the whole act of it in general, there is nothing better than a nice, smooth shifting manual. It isn't hard to learn and it's well worth the slight annoyance in heavy traffic. Of course, this is just my opinion, but I will never own an automatic sporty car. If you're going to drive a muscle car, a sports car or a pony car, there's no other way imo. Besides, ls3>l99

i learned to drive a manual when i was about 14-15 yrs old. it was not that difficult to learn. it takes practice to get the hang of it. i have switched from manual shift cars to automatics. now i am back with my manual shift Camaro because i wanted more excitement and horse power. i drive through heavy traffic sometimes and its not so bad shifting gears all of the time. it depends on your attitude on whether or not it will get tedious. especially in stop and go traffic. get what impresses you the most.
