OK - about #2, the GM engineer I quoted in a earlier post is wrong an you're right - I'll let him know.

Formula racers: When a button is pushed and a gear change occurs I call it "automatic". It may be a different form of automatic but it sure isn't a manual as most understand it. NASCAR uses manuals or is it a manual, manual rather than a automatic manual...

Not to be an ass but... There were plenty of early threads about this subject, check http://http://www.camaro5.com/forums...ead.php?t=5313

I don't doubt your knowledge, but do a google search on cars offered with man & auto and see which is faster, this car will be no different.

It seems to be that GM is taking all the SS orders first since those trims are the most expensive and those are the models that are going to roll off the production line first. One reason why is the sh!+hole GM and other American car manufacturers got themselves into. They want to sell the most expensive model to help boost there earnings and stocks so people will invest in GM (and i dont mean buying a camaro).

All I can say is wow. With these numbers being so high in just under three weeks then if the SS continuse to sell at such a high rate, GM should rethink the Z28 or ZL1 progam. Who is for this to happen?

GM WILL make sure all of these orders will be built right off the bat. They need the cash. They will be here....that's for sure.

I've been reading everything on this site for months now, so I figured it was time to join up. There was an article I recently saw on 0-60 and quarter mile times on my nightly quest for 2010 Camaro news. I went to google and typed in, 2010 Camaro 0-60 times, and it was the second link that came up.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...rticled=129496

0-60 Quarter Mile / MPH

V8 Automatic 4.6 seconds 13.3 seconds / 108 MPH

V8 Manual 4.9 seconds 13.4 seconds / 108 MPH

V6 Automatic 6.0 seconds 14.5 seconds / 97 MPH

V6 Manual 6.1 seconds 14.7 seconds/ 97 MPH

I don't know if these are indeed accurate, but I thought I'd throw it out there for everybody. One thing I found to be interesting is how well the V6 holds up once it gets going! ( I'd still rather have the SS though!!! )

at Indy they told us the #'s have been steadily increasing...hp was going to "most likely creep up from there" meaning the 422hp LS3. There was a lot. I know that's what has been put up so far...and that is RIGHT...according to GM and the solid proven #'s they have right now. But, we were told they have gone faster. So, it's more of a wait and we'll see thing.

Welcome to the site SScattergunSS and thanks for jumping in! Glad to have you aboard!

Those are some pretty good #'s, huh!

This is where I need headpunter...or Hylton...to refresh my memory. I remember being told the LS3 went 4.6....right headpunter? Hope I'm right on this....

This is where Edmunds got their information..
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5313
"the V8-equipped Camaro SS delivers better numbers across the board. Chevy's Camaro SS outfitted with the 422-hp 6.2-liter LS3 V8 six-speed manual hits 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and runs a 13.4-second quarter-mile at 108 mph according to Oppenheiser. Strangely enough, Oppenheiser also claims that the automatic-equipped SS Camaro, which is rated at 400 hp, runs from zero to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 13.3 seconds. "We optimized the shift points," he said."

A person who actually tested the V8 SS Manual in another thread said he got a 4.6 second 0-60 with the V8 SS manual so the report is inaccurate in that regard as well. Getting the V8 automatic stock to run a 4.6 would require special aggressive tuning if what Oppenheiser said was correct. I would imagine the conditions need to be perfect and definately the car would need sticky tires as well in my opinion so I don't know if it would be possible stock having 22 less HP to expect it to be at the same level as the manual V8 (unless aggressive tuning or a sport mode from factory will be available). My guess is that the V8 automatic stock with stock tires by launch may have a 4.8 second 0-60 time under its belt which would match the Dodge SRT8 Challenger's automatic while the manual should be able to surpass it at 4.6 at its best stock.

Please do not blame GM for Government mandated far left leaning regulations like CAFE - that hobble the desire to bring product to the consumer.

GM is in business to build cars. If they could build all SS's they would.

Does anyone know if/how GM's CAFE will be impacted by the mix of V8 vs V6 cars being manufactured?

I fear CAFE will have far reaching impact especially after the election and in future years. So I wonder if GM is going to "front loading" the mix and sell as many SS model's as they can before BIG BROTHER steps in and clamps down on fuel mileage.
