2011 Camaro Z28 v6 turbo vs superchared v8

So many of you all have seen j's commenting on the concept camaro twin turbo v6 as runner up for new z28. Although is sounds like a very good idea, I have mixed feeling about the new z28 to have a v6! first of all I've always wanted the z28 to be a gt500 fighter, and have over 550 hp, however this v6 twin turbo sounds very appealing, manly because of reduced body weight better handling, good flue economy and possibly cheaper price tag. It would be awesome to be able to odder the new z28 with a LSA or the twin turbo v6, however do to cost issues that may not be possible.

We have to move forward. If they one day make a 4-cylinder that can outperform my V8, I would rather have that.

#1...we need to get over the 6 v. 8 stigma...it's silly.
#2...we need to spell-check before we submit a poll....

and #3,

We need to temper our assumptions on what the Z/28's powertrain will be....the bottom line is it will be kickass, whatever they plan to do. Look at it from this perspective.

They've NEVER worked with a IRS Camaro before...never been able to have this much "fun" building a vehicle. And on their very FIRST try, in the very FIRST year of this revolutionary Camaro -- they gave us a monster that can accelerate to 60 in 4.6 seconds, cover the quarter in 12.8 seconds, and pull over .9 gs in handling....ALL while providing a Buick-level ride comfort, road-noise levels unheard of in a Camaro, seating comfort you may expect in a touring sedan even though it'll hold you steady, fuel-efficiency you might expect out of a small car, a host of standard features (including Brembo brakes), and a price that seems impossible for a business to justify.

Yet they did it!!!

And the Z/28 is basically a Camaro with many constraints lifted, because it's not intended to be sold in mass volume like the 6, or even the SS. So set a price ceiling, and use your imaginations...

It will KICK ASS. And it'll look good doing it. Enjoy the ride, and let the engineer types figure out how to get there.

true. however its really hard to beat the sound that the v8 makes, nonetheless its all about how makes it the the finish line first.

If these company's do away with the V8 as the top dog they would have one less customer. And dont give me crap about owning a Mustang because I am game for anything American as long as it appeal's too me.

I feel that the twin turbo V6 with the weight savings and handling package of Jay Leno's car would be the perfect Z28. That is what the original Z28 was. It was a lightweight car built to handle like it was on rains, and it has a smaller displacement engine than the "Big Boys" but would rev high and nearly make "big boy" power. The Leno car would be true to the original Z28.
As far as the 550horsepower cobra killer, I feel that it should be called the ZL1. The original ZL1 was the ultimate Camaro with insane power, a relatively high price tag and low volume. Making these 2 cars would pay homage to the past, but thats just my 2 cents. What do you guys think?

Just curious about what you think will make this car lighter? Adding a turbo, intercooler, piping and a beefed up suspension is going to add quite a bit of weight...... There is roughly only a 70 pound difference between a LS and a 1SS

I LOVE Leno's TT V6, but it seems to me that a new Z28 ought to have significantly more power than the SS, not just squeeze SS-level power from a V6.

how many polls are we going to have on the Z's powertrain? I mean seriously. hell why does it have to have FI? because that's the only way to make power? well we'll see what it is when they decide to talk about it finally. but I'm not voting on this poll. It doesn't cover an NA appication. and it could be NA.
