Diesels can be real quick! But he has a handheld tuner and exhaust... Also has a big lift and 37's on a extended cab long box.... I told him if he really wants to I will run him at a track but not for money and not on public roads

rx8's, especially stock, just seem so slow. aren't the rx7's faster than rx8's on the track?

+1 I test drove a RX8 before I bought a G8 and the RX8 felt really slow in a straight line. around the bends it was good but not 1LE good

I would have to agree with the driver comment.

the RX8 is a great car for AutoX but lacks the power to dominate a road course or to keep up with the big boys. You need to make a bet with him, loser pays for the winners track day fee.

A little too much discounting of drivers in this discussion, but agree that with equal drivers, the 1LE would absolutely annihilate a stock, or even not so stock, RX8.
Back to the driver thing though, I haven't watched it in a while, but there was a great video on YouTube of Doug Hayashi (of NSX-Files fame) in his relatively stock Honda S2000 (only mods were tires and pads IIRC) just walking away from a Ferrari 355, a 360 Challenge Stradale, and he would catch an F50 in the twisty bits but lose him on the banking (believe this was a track day at California Motor Speedway in the SportsCar configuration). I just Googled the video but can't find it, here's something I did find though, an S2000 being held up continuously by a couple of 360 Challenge Stradales: It's the driver more than the car. |

I've driven his extensively and I've got to admit, it is damn near perfect. If I lived in an area with closer access to good roads, I would have bought one instead of the 1LE. But with the significant amount of highway I have, I opted for something with a bit more grunt that could be fun on an on-ramp (doesn't hurt that I'm a sucker for the sound of a clean SBC). |

Owned both a stock RX8 and the 1LE. Tracked the RX8 before and, with the same driver, it won't stand a chance on a road course vs the 1LE. Unless you stay above 4000 RPM in the RX8 (redlines at 8000 RPM if I remember correctly) it has poor acceleration.

The issue is not the car. The performance difference between the two vehicles is there, no question. However, anyone who has tracked their car for a while knows you can't underestimate any kind of vehicle because you just don't know the capabilities of the driver. Granted, it doesn't sound like the guy that owned the RX8 was really experienced, for some reason. However, how many times have you seen a supercar on track being driven at less than it's potential? Many.
