AC Sound - New-ish Camaro Owner

Hey guys, I'm new here, been lurking for awhile. Got my 2010 RS back in February of this year. It had 9,800 miles. When I got it, the AC worked fine. No issues. About a month later, it stopped. The dealer replaced the compressor, said the clutch broke. So, it was working again. About a month later, again, it stopped working. So, again, they replaced the compressor, said the clutch broke again. About a month later, again, it stopped working. This time, I gave them an issue about it saying this is quite absurd to keep going through this, I printed out the TSB on the drain plug issue and advised them this MIGHT be the issue. Well, they checked it, said that wasn't it, and contacted GM and were advised of another TSB for some sort of internal part (can't remember the name) that is bad, and the compressors they installed the previous 2 times must've been old ones without this part replaced. So, here I am again, they replaced the compressor, and it's working fine.

Here's my issue:

Out of ALL of these compressors, none of them sounded like this one does. When the compressor is engaged, it makes a loud rumbling sound off and on. When the compressor is not engaged, it's quiet, but obviously, it comes on and off while the AC is on. Can someone with a 2010-2011 V6 let me know if there's sounds like this too? I'm curious if this one has something going on with it as well. It was never this loud before. I also noticed a larger decrease in performance with this one compared to the others when it's engaged.

Thanks guys!

Eye candy of the new ride! (so I don't get the ole' "")

same problem here. Horrible sounds. Only mine you can actually see the clutch moving off balance when engaged. Took it to the dealer and told them about it and all they said was if it still cooling nothing is wrong with it and the sound is just the sound. I told them if the clutch flys off and damages anything else they are responsible. told the tech at least re-oil it if anything to cover it from any further damage but the guy there was like whatever.

I would find a repair shop or another dealer that has a reputation of knowing what they are doing.

Thanks for the responses guys... I did look at the pulley this weekend when it was making the rumbling sound, which is pretty damn loud... even my wife was like, wow, wtf is it so loud for? anyway, I looked at the pulley and it did seem to be wobbling slightly... which would make sense for the rumbling/vibration noise... I mean, you can feel it when it's happening.... I'm gonna make an appointment with this people again... the need to replace my PDIM anyway.... last time I asked them to update it, and they said they did, I checked the version, and it's still CB and CC... so I have the TSB printed out to replace the entire PDIM....

So, it's been quite awhile since I've posted on this topic. Well, I dropped my Camaro off on the 17th of this month. They STILL have it to this date. That's 2 weeks without my car. What they THINK is the issue are the fans. They replaced the shroud, both fan motors, and the module. The problem now is that the module is a new type of module and requires a different connector than the original. The connector was SUPPOSE to come with the module, but did not. Well, surprise surprise, the connector is on back order. I've already gotten GM Customer Service involved. To be honest, they haven't been much help. Not sure if it's their fault or not. They're getting mixed answers just like I am. Which part was ordered when, what part they're waiting on when, etc. etc.

So, anyone have any suggestions? I would appreciate anyone in the Nashville area commenting. I'd like to PM the dealer info and see if they have heard anything negative about these guys.

If it cools and there's no leaks, it's fine. If they replaced it and it breaks, they'll cover it.

Two weeks? Did they give you a rental car?

Hello Sfasddsf,

I’m sorry to hear your Camaro has been in the shop since the 17th. I can certainly understand how inconvenient it may be to go without a vehicle for an extended period of time. If you would like, send us a private message with your case number and VIN, and I would be happy to look into this further.

Best,

Julie C
