Install of New PCV hardware

Took my time this morning and installed my Mighty Mouse catch can and RX separator. Made up a bracket for up front mounting and room to reach under to easily drain the can.


Mounted the catch can on the passenger side by the ECU and even modified the engine cover to allow the RX separator and Mighty Mouse catch can to fit underneath. Not sure if I'm keeping this ?
I have a hookup that brings in fresh air through the separator and comes out diagonally to the back left valve cover. Then over to the Mighty Mouse PCV catch can. I have two vacuum sources, one normally to the top of the induction manifold. And a second from before the SC for WOT.
So far it looks pretty clean and no whistling ! Went for a drive and idle was good and an improvement in the idle dive at stops. Would have taken more pics but phone needs to be charged.

That looks good. but I want to see what the filter on the CC will look like with some miles on it. Oil soaked or just dirty. By the way Is there a inline check valve to keep moisture from coming back into the can on a warm/hot engine while it's shut down?

I am interested in this too. It will give a good indication of how much positive pressure is building in the system. And how the vacuum is working across the range of use.
And yes there is a PCV and check valves to hopefully prevent the moisture soak back that most people are seeing in the colder weather.
Since I do use the car as and almost DD, I should have some quick status. Although snow is predicted again today and Wednesday so I don't think I'll have many miles this week.

Looks good, should be able to tell how effective it is in a few months. Don't think there is really a wrong way to do the pcv as long as both valves are vented/vacuumed. Think the big problem with the IPF setup was the intake manifold vacuum port being deleted.

Ordered this can as well . What did u bolt to your fabricated bracket ?

It is bolted to the engine cover mounting stud/ grounding post. I wanted it below the valve cover height any oil or condensation would flow to the can. I am going to get the machine shop at work to see if I can tie the bracket to two locations to get a little more rigidity.
I wish this weather would break so I could get it down there.

the breather on the pcv cans are one way (exit only) no moisture will get in, and there is baffling and filtering inside the can so it is highly unlikely that a drop of oil will ever make it to the filter during blow-by.
We are used to another breather that went on the oil cap and would get soaked in oil from venting.

I had some water in my elite can when I first installed it, maybe a table spoon. I think it might have been from water that the old can allowed in the crankcase, oil got warm enough to turn it into vapor and got sucked out.

Hopefully we can get more data that these PCV setups work and IPF can update their system.

Not to thread jack but...

All this talk about PCV has me wondering if there isn't a slightly better solution for my N/A car? I know its not as big of a deal versus a forced induction car, but wondering if I could be doing something better.

On my LLT I'm running the Vararam intake and catch can. Pretty standard setup for the catch can on the passenger side. PCV runs to can, then can to the top of the intake.

As for the clean side, the Vararam setup doesn't have it going back into the intake. Rather, the clean line just goes to a very simple chrome capped breather with no type of check valve (the vararam unit is hiding the breather in the pic below). Its a cheapo you can get from autozone. I've had to replace it once already b/c the foam inside the breather became soaked with oil.

After some of the bad luck we've seen with the RX one way check valve oil cap, I'm a bit reluctant to run one of those.

If the clean side does not go into the intake, where is the metered air? maybe the 1LE separator would work as well. I am getting one and may or may not use it. Depends, my current setup is working great, just looking for options..

Best solution to your PCV problem is a supercharger kit.

Or you could run a vacuum gauge, tee off before the manifold.
