Store the batteries in your house if you can and take them out and charge them at least every 60days

Can you confirm this tool is all you need power/torque wise for Camaro lug nuts (140 ft lbs)?
Not going to be opening up my own shop with it or anything. Just random things hear and there but specifically lug nuts on two vehicles.

I'd always at least break the lug nuts loose by hand and remove them with the tool on slow speed. I'm kind of uneasy about the accumulated effect of repeated impacting on fasteners that may end up being removed and retorqued many times.
Whether it's even enough to loosen a 140 ft*lb lug nut after it's been in service for a while (corrosion) or was air-tooled down (to an even higher torque) is a separate question. Norm

Great point...
Just trying to buy a solid tool that wont break the bank. Id like to be at $250 for battery, charger, case and tool.

So the M12 only has 42 ft lbs of torque...

Buy a torque wrench. Use the battery impact to get them close. Now, if you have been watching races and see the pit crews and you think that the lugs are torqued to spec you have been mislead. The whole purpose of the crews are to change the tires and if the car pulls out and completes a lap they did okay. They aren't worried about exact torque, misthreaded nuts, etc... Just make it to the end of the race with four wheels on the car. They will fix it before the next event. If you watch videos of the factory attaching wheels to Camaros those are completely different tools and are far out of the budget of a do-it-yourselfer. Like sell your house along with a deed to the Brooklyn Bridge.

Another thing that can't hurt is re-check the torque after giving it a good test beat.

I needed a new cordless drill as my MIL broke my 18v Ryobi, I ended up with this 20v Porter-Cable set (Drill + Impact Driver). Use the driver constantly to swap wheels. Built very well, batteries have great life, love the LED that illuminates your working surface, and plenty of torque for anything I've needed so far (about 1500 in/lbs is what I believe its rated for).

I bought a Harbor Freight corded. I had had it almost 7 years now not one issue. I never "break them loose first" If your gonna do that why even bother with an impact gun.
Just get a good set of impact sockets to go along with it. They make all the difference in the world. |

Plus, impacts + fast speed tends to be hard on threads and conical lug nut and wheel surfaces. Eventually, lug nuts will fail to hold torque even after retorquing. Sometimes you can't break a fastener loose unless you impact it loose, that's when you do what you gotta do. Quote:
