Times like this i wish i went LS3....
so lately ive been pricing up cams...but i realize in order to do it right on an L99 you're easly looking at over 2 grand just in parts. you need the Cam ($430), in my case i want to keep the VVT so i need the AFM delete kit ($390), VVT Phaser limiter ($60), Torque Converter ($800) springs ($300), Trunion upgrade ($140), C6R Timing Chain ($150), Melling Oil Pump ($160) + Tuning.
i mean TSP offers a kit which inclused the cam, Springs, push rods, dod delete, and phaser limiter for 1200 bucks...saves you about 30 which is good. so without the tune your looking at roughly $2500 just for a cam...that price includes doing it myself....forget about installation. its crazy...hence why my SS has remained cam-less for this long. if i had an LS3 it would have had a cam a long time ago. Now i know a lot of those things on that list are required whether its an LS3 or L99 but the AFM delete, phaser limiter and Torque converter are unique to the L99...but thats ~$1250 right there...cuts the price in half. anyway...just ranting about it. trying to figure out how you guys afford it! you selling your kidneys or what? lol |

Just buy the parts a little at a time. That's what I did. $1000 here and there. Installation kicked my ass. It was more than the parts itself. But I also didn't go with a stall either. If you were doing LS3 conversion Im probably gonna have my ported heads, cam, ported IM and port TB on the market shortly. Not that it matters on the the heads,IM, TB. Js
The only thing I can say is its worth it.

Im in the same boat as you. I literally just got my invoice for all the parts. looking at $3,000 (i will be installing myself). Includes: Lethal Racing Night fury cam LS3 Conversion Yank 3200SS converter B&M trans cooler (with all lines/fittings and fan) 25% U/D pulley and belts I did opt for titanium retainers, oil pump, 16 lifters, etc. I already have a tune so the tune is either free or like 100$ to update it. That doesnt include some tools Ill need to buy, and the the price of the tow truck to get it to the tuner. |

Whatever it costs, it seems to matter little when the customer comes back to pick up the car and hears it for the first time

But hey, think about it. 3 grand for 100hp. Thats better $$ per HP than most supercharger kits by a big margin!

Don't forget when you compare the LS3 car to the L99 you have to factor in an aftermarket clutch for an LS3 and suspension parts to control wheel hop.
So it's about a wash when it's all said and done with. Autos don't need those suspension upgrades until you are low 10's-9's. Just save up on ur cam and you will be happy you bought an auto in the long run. |

True words. It didn't matter how much it cost after that first ride. My wife was also kinda pissed about the expense until she drove it. And she continues to drive it daily even though we have 2 other vehicles.

Ya... LS3 needs a better rear end to hold the power. They also eventually need a clutch. Its a wash man. Be happy you will be faster.

My complete cam price list is as follows
$100 used cam $286 PRC dual springs And that's it. I'm gonna install it myself once I run an 11 with just bolt ons. Probably at the end of the year. I both the can over two years ago and it's been sitting on my shelf ever since.
