Can't believe what my dealer did!! - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

My dealer rep calls me at 11:00 am today and tells me that my car was in. You can imagine the excitement after that call, both my wife and I were static and I couldn’t get out of the house fast enough.

However 15 minutes later when I had one foot out the door the phone rang again and it was the dealer. I picked up thinking that they wanted to remind me to bring my check book and my transferring tag or so.

But No!

Instead, the rep called me to apologize because he made a mistake and that wasn't my car that came in. You would think he'll have the sense to double check the VIN# before he calls.

I feel like the kids when they find out there is no Santa Clause.

You better get over there and check that vin, they may be playing games and selling your car out from under you. After the nightmare stories about dealers on this site, you never know.

That or maybe it was damaged while being unloaded from the truck and they need more time to get it corrected.

I told the rep that I'm in the body shop business and if there was something funny going on he should come clean now because I will find out eventually (I said it in a sarcastic playful tone, but I meant it).

You can bet I will go over that car with a fine tooth comb.

Well at least this isn't another horror story of a last second dealer markup. When I opened the thread that's what I was expecting to see.

Sounds like a good idea, but I’ve been staying in touch with them since I ordered the car and I have my VIN# along with a downloaded copy of my window sticker.

I think is probably one of these four possibilities..

1. A bad joke that they played on me, maybe on a bet.
2. The vehicle came in damaged and they found out after calling me.
3. They are idiots and the vehicle really never came in.
4. The vehicle was stolen of the lot over night.

I’m leaning towards #2

Selling my car off to someone else wouldn't be a possibility. How are they going to explain a different VIN#?

I would drive over and ask him face to face kindly......about #2 if that is your gut feeling. Ya know that gut feeling never lies. I know I would do it. You will sleep tons better even if somthing happen to it, you at least would know for sure. If you are right and something happened to it....just make sure the clerical side of the dealership does not report it to Carfax by accident!!
