Taxes on a new camaro?

If you dont mind me asking, is anyone from IL. that picked up a new SS, what were taxes? I am going to be looking at used 2010 SS's for about 31,00-32,000 and I have know I dea how much more it will actually be! How were the dealers with pricing, for a 32,000$ car I hope these guys will work with me so the taxes dont jack the price up much.

cook county charges 7.25% sales tax on vehicle purchases
If you live outside Cook county and purchase in Cook county (but in IL), they will charge you 0.25% tax on top of your county's tax rate.
Lake is 7.0%
Will is 7.0%

looks like you get a lucky break in Plainfield depending upon the county you live in...

Quote:
Sales Taxes (retailers' and service occupation taxes)
General merchandise 8.250%
Qualifying food and drugs 1.000%
Vehicle(ST-556) 6.250% (dealer purchase)

If the vehicle or trailer is titled and registered to an out-of-state location, you (the dealer) may be required to collect tax. Refer to "Information for Vehicle Dealers" on the Welcome Page.

Use Taxes (use and service use taxes)
General merchandise 6.250%
Qualifying food and drugs 1.000%
Vehicle (RUT-25) 6.250%
use this link https://www.revenue.state.il.us/app/trii/ to see what you'll pay depending upon which county you live in (I think cook county is the only county that charges an extra 0.25% on top of your local tax rate).

Oh and any unlucky suckers with a Chicago address have to pay a 8.5% sales tax. yikes! I hear in if you live in South Carolina you only have to pay $300 max.

That sh*t blows. Move to NC, 3% sales tax. Trade in, and only pay the 3% on the net difference to boot

The $300 cap in SC is true, but I've heard it may soon be a thing of the past.
