Thank you very much jrhaus, I'm on here looking a lot and never saw anything like this. Also thanks for not being a jackass and ripping me for not doing a search. You are the man.

No problem man, I don't ever throw the search thing up bc frankly I can rarely get it to work right...

and you had a legit concern... not the typical "will this void my warranty"

Hope they get it taken care of!

I have a 05 Caravan that does the same thing on the drivers windows when I open it. Doesn't happen all the time, just every now and then.

Ok, you are a good sport.

It could be in the air filter for the heating/cooling system.

I got the answer from an earlier post actually and as I was cleaning today there is what appears to be a piece of carpet backing inside the door sill to the front of the engine compartment. I think that is the piece getting wet and smelling. Its on the outside of the car so that's why I'm not smelling it when the window is closed. Must be getting wet and then drying over and over. Thanks again jrhaus.

thebighar, I see you may have isolated the offending substance. Have you been able to take care of this yourself yet?

No Jeff, I don't want to pull it out in case I damage something. Next time I go in for an oil change I'm going to get them to look at it unless I can get in there sooner for them to look. I think I definately found the problem though. Looks like about a half inch thick old carpet padding. In front of the door facing the engine compartment/fender area. As for you dire wolf that may be a personal problem, my recommendation would be some soap once in a while.

i had a problem very similar to urs. but not just when i opened the window. the only way i can describe the smell is like somewhere in between stale and mildew. reach down and feel the carpeting on ur passenger front and backseat side. turns out it had something to do with the seal in the firewall not being done correctly and water leaked from the outside into the interior. there is a bulletin for it. i thought i was crazy and that maybe i was just so paranoid about my car that i was smelling things that werent there haha
