"Used Oil"...

Been thinking.......since most people on this forum change their oil way before it is truly needed, either by ignoring the oil management system or claiming it is "hooey" (sorry for the technical term).

Also, since almost everyone is using some type of synthetic oil, with Mobil 1 being the favorite, and then Royal Purple and what not, all synthetics can go over 5k miles, especially when a bunch of us have the "filtermag" on the filter and the magnetic drain plug.

When I have swapped out my oil, it is clean as can be and without any hint of contaminants (smell of oil, discoloroment, etc).

So my point: what better way to recycle it then to use it in "lesser engines", a Dodge Neon with 160k miles on it that burns more oil than it leaks, or vice-versa. Perhaps there is some cash strapped kid down the street who could use it. God knows when I was 19, I had a Mercury Marquis that leaked oil at about a quart a week. My neighbor Wally would change his oil every 1500 miles with his Chevy Caprice. So he gave me what he drained and it worked out fine. Of course, the running joke was that Wally should just pour a quart on the street where I parked but that is neither here nor there anymore. BTW, the leak was the back seal, where the tranny mated up with the 460cu.in. big block. It was $375 then to fix it and I was making $375 every two weeks.....

I call this a win/win.

Won't used oil contain miniscule contaminants like metal and carbon too small to be captured by a filter? Not saying it is harmfull to do so, but if it works, it works.

Simple, just recycle. I pour it back into the ground, that's where it came from. Right?

True ,first car i had 56 ford, cost me 60 bucks, in 1967. It had several oil leaks, I used what they called bulk oil back then, came in glass 1 quart jars at the thoni gas stations in Nashville, dang wish I had that car now. I'd sure take better care of it now! Thanks for the memories. Tonyko1

The thing that would concern me would be how cruddy is the drain pan it is going into. If you could drain it to a clean jug sure, then save it for the DD beater or lawn mower. Not really a loss anyway if you don't reuse it, as it goes to the recycle supply anyway. Just makes the recycled oil that much better, makes up for the really bad stuff I've given them over the years.

I use it for my chain saw as bar oil for the chain. Works great.
