Best Flash Drive for Camaro 2SS
I've experimented with the usb access to music. Namely tried portable memory. I tried a 4GB flash drive and it worked perfectly. Then I tried a 500GB portable drive. It didn't even discover it.
I was thinking about buying a 128GB flash drive USB 3.0 but I'm worried it won't work. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-turb...&skuId=3198009 What do you think? |

well there is a limit as to how many songs you can use, as the infotainment system on a 2011 (which is what you have) has a limit of 10,000 songs/files that it will detect, you can find that info in your manual, pg. 7-20, depending on what bit rate you used for your mp3's will depend on how big a drive you can fit them all on. At the standard bit rate for mp3's (128) you can easily put roughly 4500 songs/files on a 8 gig drive. SO with that in mind, you really don't need anything bigger than about a 16 gig flash drive.

I have an older version of this 8GB but you are better off getting the low profile drive. it stays out of the way and only projects out about 1/4"

Edit: Changed over to the 32GB one. Should be more than enough memory. Last edited by yescats; 08-23-2015 at 08:05 PM. |

A 128GB Flash can hold 128,000 songs. THAT'S A LOT OF MUSIC you carry!

I have a 64G thumb drive with a mix of MP3 and FLAC and my 2010 won't even recognize the drive. I fear it may not see anything bigger than maybe 32G, but don't have one to try.

I use a 64gb formatted in exfat format. It takes forever to read, but it works. I'm going to downsize to a 32g since it reads quicker. Right now it takes literally 10 minutes for the dice to read.

well here is what I have done......I put the drive in my car and allowed it to load. I never take it out.....unless I need to add more music. This way.....when I get in my car, turn it on, it starts playing IMMEDIATELY....and never misses a beat. NOW, if I take it out, then it will a little while to read and start to play.....but it only does this once.

have a few different ones, ranging from 8-32 GB, all work but the ones with a ton of songs take forever to index, usually just go with one of the 8's with all my favorite bands on each. Currently rocking out to Seether

My 13 drops the thumb drive every other drive cycle. I have to listen to my iPod classic using an aux cord because it takes forever to index. I recently rented a 15 Charger for our family trip and it took the Uconnect 10 mins to index. Come GM keep up!

Anything over 300 songs takes forever to index......
I just keep my song count around 300 and it will start playing within a few secs.
