Valve cover leak

Hey everyone,

My car had been sitting in the garage since November and two weeks ago I was finally able to take it out and drive it again. Saturday I was actually able to put about 150+ miles on the car; my wife and I noticed an oil burning smell. I opened the hood and saw my drivers side FWD area of the valve cover looks like its seeping just a bit of oil onto the exhaust manifold. The passenger side is very clean. I drove it agin today and I noticed the same thing.

It is a 2013 1LE, 22,500 miles. I'm going to change both sides of the cover gaskets. I'm wondering if there is anything else I should take a look at. Do you guys recommend after market gaskets? I'm going to be on track this weekend hoping I can knock this out this week.

If you are putting stock gm gaskets on, make sure you put a small amount of oil or grease on the gasket after it is installed in the valve cover. Then torque to spec, detorque and pull the cover off to make sure the gasket did not roll over. If all is good retorque and have fun. If you are using felpro gaskets then just install and torque to spec.

use GM gaskets. nothing better. I bet if you re torque the bolts the leak will stop. It probably was loose from the factory. 106inlbs

I should have bought a ZL1

If re-torque doesn't work I'll go this route.
