Question LS3/L99 Question...

Are they pretty much the same engine? I mean will the same aftermarket parts (headers, cams, CAI, etc.) going to fit the exact same on both engines? I want a premier engine, but i would prefer the auto w/tapshift as a transmission. Any help?

The last L99 was a slightly modified LT1. I don't know anything about this one.

I thought it had been stated they are the same engines save the L99 was modified for AFM?

There is an entire thread in the Engine section of this board on the L99 and AFM and the implications thereof, as well as any number of other random ramblings (especially the ones from me!):

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5181

It is essentially the LS3 with AFM and associated goodies, it is a 6.2, but there MAY be some issues with modding it, then again maybe not...There is a lot in the thread above>

They are both 6.2 L engines. The L99 is auto only with AFM and has a rev limiter at 6000 rpm.
The LS3 is pretty much the 'Vette engine that is only available with the 6-speed manual... limited to 6600 rpm

They both utilize LS7 heads and larger ports/valves.

Best regardSS,

Elie

People aren't having problems with their G8GT's, so I think we should be ok.

They are very very close in design and are prolly the best flowing heads gm has ever made.

technically, it was a reduced modification LT1...lol due to the smaller bore of the l99 it didnt need the extra boring out that the 5.7 needed...

however, this L99 is the same block as the LS3, its pretty much the same motor overall, with the exception of the cam being slightly different and the AFM added to it.
