For those of you with the H&Rs...

Does your car still clear most concrete parking blocks and whatnot? I'd hate to be away on business and my wife scrapes the car on one of those....

Also do you need to use spring compressors? Is there a how-to with pictures floating around that I just can't find, or is it just that simple?

I've installed a couple of lowering spring sets on foreign cars, but my Vette was just an adjustment of a bolt on the control arm or whatever.

My LS will rub the lower plastic panel below the bumper on most curbs.

I did indeed use a compressor to remove the stock springs, but not going back together.

The install was easy IMO, and if you have done a few imports you should be fine.

Most spring kits lower the car 1-1.25" (the H&R's are closer to 1.5" I think) and will definitely put you closer to the curbs but, as Jamison711 pointed out, even at stock height, the air deflector can rub. Coil-over cars have the ability to go lower than 1.25" (almost 2" for some) and can definitely put the nose low enough to cause some problems if you are not careful.

Installation is pretty straightforward on these cars, if you have done imports before, this should be a breeze for you. Here's a quick overview: You need a spring compressor to remove the front springs but not the rear. In the front you just remove the two 24mm spindle bolts, one 10mm brake line bolt, a 15mm swaybar end link bolt and one 24mm nut on top of the strut in the engine bay and the whole assembly drops out. Compress the spring, remove the 24mm nut and disassemble.

The easiest way to remove the rear is to remove the lower control arm (21mm, 18mm and 15mm will do all the bolts). Once the control arm is out of the way, use a 15mm to remove the four upper shock mount bolts and the whole shock/spring assembly drops out. remove the 18mm nut and disassemble.
