When is a motor "broke in"

How many miles until the car (auto) is considered broke in? I have a heavy foot and I got into it a little hard the other day but backed off quickly b/c I was afraid I would hurt the motor since it's a new car. I bought it in March with 3 miles on it, 2 months later, she has just over 1200. No problems, very smooth, etc. My normal take off is around 3-3.5 rpm's but I punched it the other day and was up to 4.5-5 rpms...Just wondering when I can not feel so nervous when I punch the gas?

Break in is around 1,500 miles. Without thread jacking, it is actually better to push the car hard when breaking it in. Helps seal the rings

I'd say your good to go, if you haven't, get that oil changed. Normally the first one is on the house at your dealer. Myself personally I didn't really worry about a break in period on either of my cars. I just drove them and changed the oil at around 1500 miles ... Both of them run great, and haven't had a lick of trouble with either ... Just drive and enjoy !!!

No I haven't yet but been wondering if I should soon. I'd love to go to my dealer but they are jerks there, had a bad run in with a manager when I bought the car (long story) Not sure where to take it now :(

Change the oil yourself. It's relatively easy to do.

I'm sure there is another dealer relatively close to you?

Apartment complex + New Camaro = Door dings. You need a garage. Whether you change your own oil or not. And yes around 1500 mile the car should be broke in. Regardless of how you drive it.

My apartment has an underground parking garage, and I have 2 spaces free, and I pay 15/month for a 3rd. Next to a wall, so I straddle two with the Camaro and the Accord sits in the third. So unless someone on the other side back into me, I don't have a lot to worry about. Location, location, location!

On topic, I drove my Camaro hard and am at about 2300. At 3k, I plan on having the engine/tranny/diff fluid all replaced at the same time. I am doing this cuz' my oil life monitor went from 80% to about 65% in just one weekend of spirited driving, and per the manual it's recommended/acceptable to replace the diff oil at 1.5k if you are going to do competitive driving.

As far as break-in for fuel efficiency, from anecdotal evidence I have seen, the engine will continue to get "better" up to almost 10k miles.
