Any Experience with 3M Protective Films

Recently ordered a 2018 ZL1 M6 and the dealer had an option for $550 for a complete 3M protective film package that included whole front bumper, hood, fenders, side skirts, trunk, rear bumper. That seems like a really good price. Almost too good to be true.

Did anyone else do one of these dealer installed 3M packages?

Mostly interested in knowing people's views between 3M and XPEL.

I figure you can't go wrong for $550 vs a comparable XPEL install would be around $2K. But I could be wrong.

I used suntek. Xpel is great too.
My guy showed me the 3M, 3M had a lot of orange peel to it.

So 3M isn't worth it? There's some kind of discoloration? Does the 3M/Suntek stuff auto-heal like XPEL?

Each brand has a basic non-self-healing variant and a premium variant that self-heals. Suntek Ultra is most clear, 3M Pro least clear, IMO.

The 3M film of 3+ years ago is known to turn yellow over time.

$550 is very low, so don't expect a show quality result.

Something else to check is whether that $550 includes installation.

3M film is garbage and turns a dingy yellow. Suntek or even better, Xpel Ultimate, the best film you can use.

had a 3m on my wife's car and i didn't like it because it does look like it has orange peal. I went with suntek on my Camaro and am happy with it so far.

I know 3M price doesn't include install. I had it on a previous car and prefer xpel.

I had 3M pro installed on my 15 ZL1, full front end for $2500 and enjoyed it.

On my ZL1 1LE, I went with full body xpell premium high gloss for $5500.

I prefer Xpel as its high quality and gives a glossy look.

My 2007 TBSS has 10 year old 3M film on it. It has lived a pampered life, but no yellowing.

OK. Thanks for the feedback. Just got word that my TPW is OCT 23 so I got a little time to figure this out. If their cost doesn't include install, then I'll just go with the XPEL ultimate on the main areas of concern.

Xpel ultimate and Suntek ultra

I think you should seriously consider the Suntek. They are both 10 yr warranties and same thinkness. But clarity is just phenomenal on Suntek ultra.

Can not go wrong with either.

If it’s 550 for the whole car and not just the front portions then I’d seriously question the quality of the install and installers. Full car protection from reputable installers can run 2k for self healing
