Great numbers. No shame in having the "slowest 10 second car in the country". I hope to be that "slow" in the near future. So, you're pretty happy with the Whipple? I just can't decide on which one to go with. What was it that made you choose Whipple over the others?

Well I'm taking off my Maggie for a whipple if that's any help and the Maggie would have gotten my car into the 9's. The whipples give you a lot more ability to grow. It's .6 liters bigger than the tvs 2300, which is a great blower by the way. I've just outgrown it!

What happens when you outgrow the 2.9L? You know that forged bottom end will be begging for more. Just busting you...

Thanks guys!

Yes, I absolutely love my Whipple! It makes great power for what little I have done to the car. This stock L99 cam is a huge restriction but wow, this thing lays down the power and has over 500ftlbs at 3.5k It was aa fairly easy install, I just had tuning issues which were not Whipples fault. It was my old operating system in my pcm giving us fits. The car was superconsistent since the intercooler hoses never semedto get really hot, wish I had brought the pyrometer to check. Plus its super Blingy for the car shows! Lol... and I have future expandibility when the motor goes south, which hopefully will be a while, I have a very safe conservative tune. You never know with those AFM lifters though. My shift points are at 6200 and rev limiter at 6400 to try and preserve them.

I chose the Whipple over the others because I wanted to run a high 10 second pass on stock internals and a stock converter. Being an L99 and not able to rev it up, I ruled out centrificals since they make their power in the upper rpm`s. Plus with the weight of the car it helps to make big torque early and being L99 also you need to make power early since you can`t spin the motor. that left maggie, harrop, Kenny Bell and Whipple. I ruled out the maggie as while a great blower n the GT500 and cobra world KB`s and Whipples are always the fastest blown cars. The Maggie`s on them and even the Vette world never seem to pull the best ET`s as compared to others, I think its due to the blower size. Harrop to expensive and also small. That left Kenny Bell and Whipple. I think either one would have done the job. I was torn between the 2 but in the end chose the Whipple for aesthetic reasons. Front mount TB which would allow me to retain my custom painted ADM Race CAI whereas KB chose to retain the rear mount setup. The ADM race works awesome, on the Dyno it stayed ambient w/ 6 back to back runs. Andy designed it well.

I ran the 160 stat. Even though i know the motor needs to heat up good, in my opinion at the track w/ back to back runs it does, my coolant tem as around 190, plus keeping the motor cooler in my opinion results in less heat transfer into the intake charge. Its just my opinion though.

SuperchagedSS,
You will love it! Get it and don`t look back!!!!

Whipple has a 4.5L compressor for just that scenario!

thats some impressive numbers mike, what did you end up running for timing looks like it was pulling timing from 5200 up? i guess the autos due suck up a lil power, the stick one we did made 612rwhp on 10 psi. were you on the 4.0 pulley????

The stock canned tune had a lil too much timing in it and we got just a little knock up top. The jagged line up top not sure, smoothing was set at zero though and Bigsquirell who has an almost identical setup looks the same. I forget how much timing we ended up running, I`ll have to check. I did end up running the stock 4.0 pulley, the auto driveline loss is more of course but the other big thing is there is no true 1:1 gear in the auto unlike the manaul. 4th gear is 1.15, so the numbers will be a little low in comparrison to one pulled in 1:1. Its probably at about 550rwhp if we had a true 1:1 after the automatic sucks up a lot of the power..lol..

I have an early 2010 VIN ends 12,546 and I have never had an update done by GM to my PCM/TCM. My tuner tried and tried to get it to stay running w/ tuning in HPtuners. However, there were tables missing from my PCM that were in other peoples Whipple tunes who sent them to us trying to help me. Thanks again everybody. Well the table that was missing is the Air/Fuel Ratio Analysis program. Its not in the old OS, but is in the new OS from GM. I can`t understand why GM shipped cars w/ out this table. I guess they did a patchwork to get them to run NA, but boy it sure won`t run w/ the blower. Runs fine is open loop, hits closed loop let of on the gas floods out and cuts off no matter what you do.
GMRULZ, thanks for this great write up and info. My Whipple build is in progress and had just started when first read your post. I was hoping my car would have the updated OS but just found out a little bit ago that it doesn't. I can thank you for knowing what is wrong. Spoke to my tuner and he already was aware of the issue as well. Waiting on dealer to pick the car up to flash the new OS. Here is a video link showing what the car did in closed loop. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cincy-...=1646931287391
My car was built in August 2009. The bad part is I have to wait longer now to get her home. :( Hopefully I'll be able to get her next Saturday. Thanks again!

Hey GmRulz,
Do you have any idea what vin numbers start the new OS? Mine was built in Nov 09. Should I just assume it is the old one and have the dealer reflash it? No big deal from their point of view probably. No drawbacks either?

2L82RUN,

Your welcome buddy. Wish I would have posted a little earlier to save you the tow.:( At least you don`t have to go through the headache I did. By the way car sounds Badass! What cam are you running? Mn6 or auto?

Blufin,
Actually, there have been 3 updates past the original OS. I don`t know if the AFR Ratio analysis program was added in the first update or one of the later ones. Seeing as not too many people have had this problem my guess is the first update past the original OS added the missing AFR AP. My car was built in april09 and 2L8 was built in aug09. So it was definetly updated after august of 09 I`m afraid I just don`t knowwhen. My suggestion would be to attempt to load the whipple can tune before doing any work on the car, if it loads your golden, if it doesn`t you will need to take the car to the dealer to have the OS updated.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm leaning toward a dyno tune and not the canned tune, but I can still try to load it before any work is done. Got any video lying around?

Oh yeah, definetly don`t stick w/ the canned tune, even if you are completely stock other than the blower, you can still pick up power. Their timing is a little too aggresive. However, the canned superchips whipple tune`s trans tune is very good. My tuner did not change a thing there. Plus it makes things easier for your custom tuner to see what whipple had already done tune wise. Not to mention you can use it to see if you have the updated os or not.

Only vid I have is me beating down a built and forged 2010 GT w/ a procharger... :
