Is the 4th gen camaro ugly? Or Is it just the nature of time

Is the 4th gen camaro ugly? For some reason when I look at the 5th gen camaro I keep thinking; "there is probably no way another car is going to look as good as this". But I look at the 4th gen and Im thinking "wtf is this ugly looking car". When its 2018 am I going to be looking back at the 5th gen and thinking "this is ugly"? For some reason I think The 5th gen is going to be the peak of the american muscle cars. I dont think it can get any better looking than what it is now. Am I wrong? Did the 4th gens look great to people when they first came out? I think the 5th gen camaro is going to look great forever

I agree with you, The style of the 4th gen doesn't really appeal to me.

I like the 4th gen over the 5th gen. A WS6 is probably the best looking version of the 4th gens.

When the fourth gen came out the car made sense at the time. All cars went that direction for style for being aerodynamic and such. When you look back now its not that appealing but at the time lots of us liked it.

I like the early 4thgen camaros with the inset headlights. And the 98 to 2002 firebirds with that slick hood.

I personally like the 4th gen. Like all cars you have to keep them clean and shiney.
with few or no dings. A dirty dinged up 5th gen is not going to look all that great.
I know what you mean though. Some cars look old, others look classic. It usually has to do with the condition of the classic that makes it stand out. Also there are a few modded 4th gen that will easily spank your 5th generation ass without hardly working!!!

I had two gen 4's and I thought that they looked really good. I still do even though I now have a 2010. Cars go through phases with people. I loved the looks of my gen 3 until I got my gen 4. Then it stopped appealing to me. Now when I see a nicely kept gen 3 I once again see the beauty. When a car like a Camaro is new, it is a thing of beauty. Then we tire of it and it becomes an object of scorn. Then it gets old enough to become a classic and our love for the car returns. This is the American way. The Camaros that I like the least are the gen 2's. However, I still think that the gen 2's are beautiful cars. Check my avatar and you will see my last gen 4 next to my gen 5 on trade in day. I fail to see any ugliness on my 02.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I have seen 4th gens that weren't taken care of and thought "put that poor thing out of its misery".

However, I think my 4th Gen was beautiful, there are a bunch in my area that look superb, and my local dealership still has a 2002 35th anniv. edition convertible SS on the showroom floor that makes me

I think when the 6th Generation camaro will be born, we would say the same thing about the current 5th generation!! This is time...

I didn't like the 4th gens because they didn't look like camaros. GM went way out in left field with the design.

I was never a big fan of the 4th gen. I'm sure the models that came out during that era will have their fans down the road, but I don't think the styling will stand the test of time as well as the 1st generation cars.

As for the 5th gen and it's styling, I don't think it's fair to even call it a "new design"; it's more like it's a time progression of a 1st gen with regard to it's visual appeal.

Now this is a general comment I've never understood. It seems to me that there's a pretty natural progression through the years of the 2nd to 4th generations of the Camaro. The 4th gen (in my opinion at least) takes a lot from the 3rd generation and smoothed out the edges. Then when they changed the headlights, that and the hood was all that changed, so it still naturally progressed.

In my opinion, the only times the designers really seemed to deviate were in 1970 and 2010*. Everything else seems like a natural adaptation/evolution to me.

*Obviously we know the design of the 2010 uses cues from the Camaro's heritage, but it has probably picked up the fewest traits of the 4th gen, when compared to traits from other generations.

I'm not really talking about "better or worse". I'm more talking about the look/exterior overall appearance. My neighbor had a 4th gen. When I saw it everyday I would think, "I'd rather get a mustang". To each his own I guess. I just think with all the "enviromental/go green" crap going on, I think the v8 is getting pushed out the door(which sucks).
