Vmax ported throttle body on the LSA camaro

The owner of the ZL1 had won a free dyno tune from Tampa Tuning during the recent St. Jude's Charity fund raiser raffle we held last month.

The beautiful 6L90 ZL1 had the Air Raid intake, a Mail order SCT tune with an AFR of 10.3 at WOT, a smaller pulley, and stock exhaust. On Dyno day, it was using up 110% duty cycle of the stock injectors and made just over 520 RWHP.

The owner read about the performance gains of the Vmax ported LS3 throttle body on the LSA motor in GM high tech magazine and requested we install one prior to dyno tune.

With 1800 miles on the Camaro, We added the LS3 ported throttle body, owner slightly modified the exhaust, and we performed a custom dyno tune on the ZL1. The Zl1 put down just over 556 RWHP with a final AFR at WOT at 11.3 to 11.50

Now obviously that's not all from a ported throttle body, but tuning had a lot to do with the gains. The point is more that the LS3 throttle body will work well on the LSA motor.

The LS3 Vmax ported throttle body was flipped upside down so it didn't interfere with the pulley system and performed flawlessly for extra air flow. It was a true plug and play to a larger throttle body.

attached are a couple pictures and the last one is a video

Enjoy,
Phil

What was the duty cycle on the stock injectors after the dyno tune?

Kissed 100% just before the shift point.

IAT sensor 1 was 91 degrees and IAT sensor 2 was 140 degrees

1.43 G/Cyl

The owner is going to go with a smaller pulley and bolt ons and he'll need at least 80 LBSers.

makes me wonder how do you flip a throttle body and make it work?

It fits perfectly. If you didn't rotate it 180 degrees, the LS3 throttle body motor would stick out to far and could rub on the pulley.

I know it fits but the throttle blade is now upside down and reversed, does that not mess with anything?

No issues at all. Just some tuning tweaks.

No we found no driving issues. It was plug and play.

The tuning was needed because it had a SCT handheld unit tune in it, and the Camaro need to be properly calibrated with a dyno and a wideband.

Lucky GM gave you a four bolt pattern to work with, allowing you to rotate it that way. lol

All of the Camaro supporting throttle bodies have a 4 bolt pattern. I have the LS3/L99/LFX/LLT Vmax ported throttle bodies in stock.

Just did this mod to my ZL1 today...Your are right, installing the Throttle body on normally, it was really close to rubbing the pulley. I have a Metco 2.5" upper pulley on and a Roto-Fab Coolant reservior, so while it was a close fit, it all bolted up nicely. The car did back fire and pop when I did the cold start on it and it would cut out and bog down and try to die if you gave it any gas from idle. Once the car warmed up, it functioned normally. Test drive went well also. Good information here thanks for sharing the info.
