What kind of gas are you filling up with in your '10 Camaro?
I'm thinking I won't be going to use regular unleaded in my 2LT/RS/AUTO(order status at 3300, yay!!) eventhough it is a v6 and only requires 87 octane, I will use 89 octane supreme. Or do you guys think there isn't much difference in the two and I might as well go Premium 91 octane, or just stick to regular 87 octane, and fill up 91 from time to time just to keep the engine clean? I know you guys who car about your Camaros are using Premium I hope.
Recommended Fuel If the vehicle has the 3.6L V6 engine reduced, and you might notice a(VIN Code V), use regular unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 87 or higher. If the octane rating is less than 87, you might notice an audible knocking noise when you drive, commonly referred to as spark knock. If this occurs, use a gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as possible. If you are using gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher and you hear heavy knocking, the engine needs service. If the vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine (VIN Code W) or the 6.2L V8 engine (VIN Code J), use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 91 or higher. For best performance, use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 93. You can also use regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but the vehicle’s acceleration could be slightly slight audible knocking noise, needs service.commonly referred to as a spark knock. If the octane is less than 87, you might notice a heavy knocking noise when you drive. If this occurs, use a gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as possible. Otherwise, you could damage the engine. If you are using gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher and you hear heavy knocking, the engine

Don't use super in the LLT V6. The plus should be fine it just mixes both tanks 50/50.
But you don't even need to use that it's designed and tested with just pump unleaded. |

using a higher octane will put slightly less stress on your engine due to the slightly higher potential compression rate of the increased octane... but GM has engineered the LTs to run on regular and says so in the manual i believe... if i had an LT i would just use regular like the manual says and save a few bucks per fill up...
the SS however is designed for premium gas

I am and will be using regular, just likes designed for, anything more is a waste. I have another GM, and it sports the same engine, the 3.6 DI V6, it runs GREAT. putting plus or superme in will only drain you wallet faster, not give you better performaqnce.

What I don't get is the owners manual for my HHR SS states to only use 91 octane or higher on it's 2.0L Eco-Tec. So why do they not require it in the 3.6L, 44 more horse power V6 that's in the LT Camaro? Is it because the HHR SS is turbo?
I use 91 in the HHR SS & my SS/RS Camaro!

I found the car tends always seems to pull a few more degrees and pulling timing more often when I'm using 87 vs 93... So while I can see the difference in the spark advance I think it's so small a difference you really can't feel it...

Ive been using 87 octane Shell fuel and feel quite safe in doing so.
The V6 has a knock sensor on each cylinder. Direct injection makes it possible to use 87 octane fuel in the engine in spite of it's 11:1 compression ratio. |
