The LSX is cast iron and weighs too much. I'm happy with the LS7.

Still produced for a niche market...They will either be bought by those that realize they are "track monsters" and want them for racing "purposes" or those with more money then sense and can spend $55-$60 on a car to drive a few days a month...

I like this thread.

Someone (local) commented to me when I started going on about this car..."But why the hell are they charging more for less?"....I couldn't do much else but ...because I had just detailed every race-derived addition/change to the car that I was aware of.

I think it comes down to what track they are saying its 3 seconds faster than the ZL1 on, because in both cases of it being ( examples ) 3 seconds faster than VIR or Laguna Seca that is pretty much Ferrari 458 territory :S Though I agree 60k for a base Camaro is a little steep, 60k in comparison to a car that cost 250k isnt that much.... Just my 2 cents

And if anybody reply's and says "but its a Ferrari" I will hit you with a 2x4 through the computer, you get my point.

For the 2013 Lightning Lap at VIR, the ZL1 ran a 2:57.5, the LFA ran a 2:55.1 and the 458 Italia ran a 2:49.9. Based on those times, the Z/28 should be running with some expensive company. The 2014 Lightning Lap should be interesting...

Comments like that kill me. They are, in fact, charging more for more. Sounds like the local doesn't know his CCBs from a hole in the ground...

I'm OK with the extra 100lbs, I like the brand specific GM LSX 454 over ERL or RHS aluminum copy cats.
- I'm aiming for 650 crank with a little massage work to the crate version.

"So, just what kind of real world strength are we talking about, then? With GM's aluminum LS7 and C5R blocks having been known to withstand quadruple-digit power numbers in certain applications, the LSX looks to better these values substantially. Explains Bates, "Cast iron is inherently stronger than aluminum, so we're expecting to see some really solid numbers before we see any type of critical failures. We truly don't know the limit of this block right now, as there is a whole lot more to it than just our mathematics and computer simulations. But I can say that when we worked out the engineering on this block, everything was done with an eye toward withstanding 2,000-2,500 hp.""

It's development, research and materials charges.

There are a significant amount of different materials involved:
- thinner rear window = non production samples
- carbon hood - one off for short run productions
- carbon splitter - one off for short run productions
- carbon rockers - one off for short run productions
- carbon brakes

Then there's the hand-built LS7.

Each time a mfg. goes to a higher end production run, labor costs jump for R&D, build and skill

You don't need to sell me! I'm well aware!

...though....I don't think the spitter and rockers are made of carbon fiber...
