Upgrade

Just a quick question for you all. sence i have a 98' base model with a v6, can i put a ls1 in there,? or is having a base model screwing me? i know no matter what i do to it it wont be a Z, it will still be a base or is that inacurate?

Not at all. Base model just means engine size and I think its a hard top.

There is a lot you would need to do to put the ls1 in there. (Wire harness, rear, mounting brackets, ect...) too many to list.

If you are going for the ls1 conversion, stick to the 2000 and below years, the ECM is A LOT cheaper. Like a few hundres dollars cheaper if it was to take a shit on you.

Yes you can drop an LS1 between the fenders with little to no issues other than getting all the parts together. The big issue with a swap like this is cost. The price of the later 4th gen cars has dropped dramatically over the last few years so honestly i would just consider selling your current Camaro and just take the money you are planning to spend on the swap and get a Z/28 or SS. In the end you end up without the hassle of a swap and have the power you want.
