Alternative to Clay Lubricant?
I've used clay, and it works great. I just don't like having to buy a "brand name" clay lubricant. Anyone have any home made suggestions using common household items?

Participating in my own thread...lol...just read somewhere that Optimum No Rinse (ONR) car wash (not sure of the mix ratio) mixed with water in a spray bottle does wonders. Since the recommended amount of ONR to actually wash your car is 2oz to 2 gallons...I imagine only a small amount is needed.

I've used Zaino products for years and won't change. I use their clay bar and higher concentration of car wash and water.

ONR or Ultima Waterless Wash costs pennies and works great. I believe ONR is actually 1oz to 2 gallons of water for car washing and 2 oz for clay lube.

I just use a mix of car wash soap and water, works great. You just need something to lubricate the surface so the clay won't stick as you rub it on the surface. Soapy water does the trick.

You don't need anything special. Any quick detailer works just fine.

I usually just use whatever quick detailer I have at the time.

Exactly. No need to order anything special to lube your clay bar.

That's a very expensive way to go

Why do you say that? I've used quick detailer many times as a clay lube with no issues whatsoever.
