Can't figure out what happened

I was driving to work today, when out of no where I hear this really loud Pop/Bang from underneath the car and I can't figure out what it was. Looked behind me through the rear-view mirror as soon as it occurred to see if maybe I hit something that was on the ground or if something happened to have broken off the car (not likely), but didn't see anything that was on the road behind me. So I stopped the car in the nearest parking lot to check the car for any damage around and from underneath. I didn't find anything from first sight, although, it was pretty dark so I can't say for sure, and now I can't figure it out for the life of me WHAT the hell that loud bang/pop was!! Going to go check out the car thoroughly at lunch and try to figure out what the heck it was or if there is some type of damage to the car. I can't tell if I hit something, or if the car happened to make the noise?!

This is going to eat at me the WHOLE day until I can figure this out.

Are you sure it was from under the car.

I was driving my car one day and heard a loud bang/pop, was like WTF? Turned out it was a rock that kick up and left a nice chip in the rear gill. Because it's hollow back there it can really sound loud.

This would be my first thought. You might have clipped a rock with a tire (making the pop sound) and it kicked up and hit under your car somewhere (making the bang sound). It would be hard to see anythng in your rear mirror, especially if it was still dark. Let's hope that's all it was and you find no problems when you get a good look under the car.

Obviously, if you find nothing and then it happens again, see your dealer. Good luck!

It sure sounded like it came from under the car, I definitely felt it through my chair, so not too sure it was a rock, unless it was massive. Maybe you're right and it was a rock, but it would have to have been a pretty big one at that, because I could definitely feel it through the car seat. I'm going to check the car thoroughly at lunch to make sure. I just can't pinpoint what would do that.

Check your driveshaft. My car was making a rotational chirping noise and GM troubleshooted it for a long time then a GM engineer told them to grease up some bolts on the drive shaft. After that the car made a very loud popping/banging noise. Maybe yours skipped the chirp stage

That happened to me once and it turned out to be the compressor. Does your AC work?
