Front license plate?? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Hey guys! Fellow forth-gen fbody owner here.
I was lucky enough to come across the Grape Ape without a front license plate and a pretty clean grille, but CA law requires that I have a front plate. While I would prefer to drive without a front plate (i've been doing so since as long as I've had it), I'm having a little opposition with that (i.e. parent).
SO now I'm looking into ways to get a front plate on the car without having to drill wholes into the grille. I was thinking of a hideaway plate (the ones that go under the bumper), but I wasn't sure if they made those fourth-gens.
Any way I could work around this little snag? It's really just a precaution for when I go cruising with friends as all high school teens do. Another CA law dictates that I'm supposed to have my license a year before I drive with a minor, but then again it says I'm supposed to have a front plate too.

Since you have have friends in your car as a younger driver you really need a front plate, It would really suck to be pulled over for that then lose your license, although I had my camaro with no front plate for 3 months and never got pulled over for it.

dont recomend it i already had 3 tickets all i do is put it behind the grill when the officer pulls me over i just snap off the grill and there it is the grill is too beautiful to ruin

Yeah, that's why I want to play it safe. It would suck. BIG TIME.
From my understanding, most cops don't really care when there's no front plate. I've driven past quite a few cop cars in my time on the road, and it's been out there for about 4 months, and so far nothing.

I agree. Definitely too beautiful to ruin.
But the idea is to not be pulled over period. It's one thing to slip by a cop, and it's another to get pulled over and have him catch any infringements...

I've had my Z since '98 with no front license plate, and only been ticketed once. It's a law here in Texas too, but not enforced much. A lot of people here just stick them in the front window on the dash.

used to live in san diego loved the place HATED CHP and their moody way of doing business. If they ticketed every one in San Diego County for tinted windows and no front plate they would cut their debt in half! I went 40K on my new IROC back in the day before I got a ticket!!!!
