is paying "the 310 price + 296$ dealership fee + tax + registration" a good deal?

I just went to a local Chevy dealership(someone I know told me they gave him invoice pricing) to put down an order for a 2011 camaro and this was the final agreed upon price for a

2LT, RS Package, Sun Roof, manual transmission.

"310" price (seems to be the invoice plus freight and various other fees coming from GM)
+ $296 dealership fee
+ 3.25% Alabama tax
+ $16.50 registration fee
- $750 USAA discount if available on day of delivery

He told me that if this was a 2010, the total out the door price would have been about $30,000 with USAA discount figured in.

I will probably be paying a little more for the 2011.

I was going for invoice and it seemed a little higher than expected for me.
But, this is my first new car purchase, so I am not really sure.

Is this a good deal for me or should I scrap it?

The dealer fee is rediculous. I don't think a "reputable dealer" would/should charge that.

No it's not a good deal. Tell your dealer you will buy it from someplace that doesn't rip off their customers by charging bullshit "dealer fees" or markups. Paying over MSRP for any car is stupid, let alone a car that's been out for over a year now.

MSRP for my specifications from the Chevy website is:

Total MSRP(1):$30,125 including $850 freight charge. not including tax, registration, etc.

If I am paying $30,000 including tax and everything, how is that over MSRP?

I'm not trying to argue that this dealership is giving me a good deal. I don't know that.

But it's kind of clear that it's not over MSRP to me?

I agree that it is ridiculous. Just another way for them to make an extra couple bucks, and $296 isn't bad. I've talked to dealerships that had it as high as $549 before. I've also dealt with a few who don't have a dealer fee and found that they don't come down off of the sticker price as much as those who do and you wind up paying the same in the end. Left pocket, right pocket. Rob Peter to pay Paul. However, you want to say it.

To the OP, if they're giving you invoice pricing plus all the extra charges that you have to deal with, you're doing pretty well. But, make sure that this "310" is invoice pricing. Make absolute sure or they may pull a fast one on you. Lastly, as stated before, go to another dealership and see what their out the door price is and compare.

Aren't those numbers for the 2010 model? Are 2011 prices out yet?

*** nevermind - you are talking about the 2010 model I guess

my just got a 2010 2lt rs moon roof with an 6 speed auto........the msrp with the destination charge wae 31600 and they sold it to him for the employee price which was 30459 give or take a couple of cents. if they give it to you at cost and you have to pay the 296 dealer fee, i think it's still not a bad deal. i think the other guy is confusing invoice and msrp....

what options for the 1SS did you get and what is your state tax rate?

I guess paying under MSRP after all the taxes and fees are the norm nowadays.

Ah, so the 310 IS the invoice pricing.

Now that I know I'm paying about $350 less than invoice with my USAA discount figured in, I will sleep so much better at night

Thank you so much Viz.
