Angry Scratch Removal?

Today a dog jumped on the vette. I am curious what a good scratch remover is. It isn't into the paint, but certainly a pretty bad scratch. You can feel it with your nail.

That looks like its going to need to be wetsanded, but if you can feel it with your nail, it might not be worth the shot. Wet sanding could possibly take it down through the clear completely.

This sucks. Not you, the scratches.
Thanks for the input.

Start by shaving the dog and making a nice wash mitt out of it.

If you dont have a PC, Flex or Rotary then I would take it to a reputable detail shop in your area to see what they could do.

I wouldn't take it to a dealer though. They'll tell you that a repaint is the only way then they'll buff it and it'll look like crap. It should be able to be wet sanded out, and if it can't this person will know. If you would like I might be able to put you in touch with someone from another forum that I'm on.

I'll have to ask around first. I have a few friends in the car business.

Your perception of what is deep is totally skewed. When you think of a scratch not being deep because your fingernail barely catches on it, you are completely missing the fact that your clear coat is not much deeper that the amount of fingernail that is being caught. In other words, if your fingernail catches at all, then that scratch is wicked deep. That is definitely going to require wet sanding, and you are going to have to find someone who really knows what they are doing. This person will have a paint thickness gauge that can measure substances on fiberglass, preferable a Positector 200 C/Advanced. This is NOT something that YOU will be able to fix.

I use it to apply even coats of wax. That is it.
I guess I'll have to live with it, because I don't want to spend the money on fixing.
