No, not good. OK, here's the story:

I dropped my car off last weekend to get cammed and swap out the stall converter from a 2800 to 3400 stall unit, and the work was completed on Thursday. We took it to the dyno and it was pumping out just over 400 to the rear wheels, when on the 4th pull....BAM! Blew the piston rod on cylinder #5....straight through the block. Bad, bad, bad day.

HOWEVER, it appears to have been a factory defect and not anything that I or the shop did to it....it is in good hands, and will be fixed as soon as possible. I've already had a few people ask if I'm going to take this "opportunity" to really build my engine up, but no, I'm not going to go with a forged block, or any other major upgrades...just going to get it back to where it should have been. I don't want to have to get a roll cage or the other major safety equipment I would need if the car goes faster than 11:50, so I will be more than happy with what I have.

Now that I've finished throwing up (and crying just a little)....I'm just very, very thankful that -- if it HAD to happen, and it appears that it was just a matter of time -- I'm glad it happened sitting on the dyno, and not at the top end of a racetrack somewhere...that would have been even more ugly.

Lastly, been kinda busy the last few days with, of course the Navy stuff, but helpin a few of my ECC brothers and sisters wrap up some of their projects that they were workin on.

Got FosterSS set up with a custom Southwest Speed Stage 2 Cam/Springs/Rods. Went down to FWB to help him finish up the install. Went well and got it over to XXX Friday afternoon where John Weeks got it on the rollers and tuned up.

Made 471rwhp/428tq on the 4th pass. John is a tuning master over there.....he totally gets my endorsement for any tuning needed around here!

From talking to Nick over the weekend, he seems like he's enjoyin the new found 139hp he gained from the Cam and Headers we got him hooked up with. Let's see how long before he's wanting more.

Went out to "West Pensacola" yesterday to get with UFNWish (Mellissa) to get her converted over from a 1LS to a 1LS with Fog Lights and colorSHIFT Halos. Now she can rock the Pink halos or Green whenever she wants!

Finished up the day yesterday going out to Pace to see Richard (DickSS) since he won't be able to make it out Tuesday. Really appreciative of him and his wife to invite myself and a couple Sailors out for some BBQ. Richard can really cook a killer BBQ by the way....guy has some killer hidden grillin talent!!

Nailed down to the Base today for some laundry, NASCAR and Meeks Watch.

Really hopin to see that Camaro put the nail in the competition today! They've worked their asses off on that car and getting it out there. Nobody deserves it more than they do.

Well...like you said...better there than on the track. I'm surprised that there was no warning. Usually a rod will knock or something before it lets go. Fix her up and all will be well.

Well...it may actually explain a lot. My datalogs have been detecting knock for awhile and my tuner thought it might be bad gas or something else we didn't have figured out yet because the "naked" ear couldn't hear anything. Perhaps we have our answer

AND...what was really strange, was that it blew on the Decel....not at top power. The car went up to about 6300 RPM's, but actually blew the rod at about 5000 on the way down.

Yikes! Definitely good it happened on the dyno and not the track. Are you going to get a whole new engine or just repair yours?
