Hardwire Radar Detector?

Anybody install a radar detector and hard wire it? I've been looking at a few different detectors and have noticed a few ways hardwire kits are offered. Some do to the mirror, although I'm guessing based off of looking at the Camaro Mirror, I would have to hardwire into the feed coming down from the sunroof controls. Others wire down to the fusebox in the dash.

My main question is really if anyone has done it, how'd they do it and if there is an opinion on the safest method for all of the other electronics in this car. I don't want to blow out the radio fuse every time the radar detector goes off!

If anybody can post steps and/or pics on their installs, that'd be a great help!

Thanks,

-Mike

I'd love to see pictures of the install if possible, and definitely the final product

I'll be at the office tomorrow during the install, but I'll take some photos of the finished product.

In my 3rd gen; I just cut the lighter plug off the wire and ran it inside the trim from the top center of the windshield down to the fuse box. I have a mount attached below the mirror that fastens to the window like the rear view mirror. It is removable, except for the little square deal glued to the windshield... well, that can be removed too, though not easily.

Ran it from the fuse box up the A pillar through the headliner. Used a RS Add a plug adapter for use with any detector though I mount the detecter to the visor.

Was going to put a jack in the headliner, but not sure that would hold up well... the headliner is somewhat loose in the front near the visors anyway.

I guess you would call this Hardwired... comes on with the ignition.

Had the escort 9500 CI installed. Mounted the read out above the steering column and the small settings remote put in the blank spot to the right of the steering column. Works great so far.

I'll get you pics of my stealth install ONCE I get my car. My A/V guy places the LEDs in very inconspicuous places, usually within the "black areas" of the gauge panel. The actual units will be inconspicously mounted front and rear.

On the interior of the car, if you are not looking for LEDs, you'd never know the Laser Jammers/Radar units were installed on the car.

I will supply photos as soon as I have a car to install on......sigh........
