Replacing auto windows with crank windows?
My window motor is dead on the driver side and dying on the passenger side. As a means of both weight reduction and simplicity, I want to install manual windows in their place. Unfortunately, I don't know where to go to find what parts I'll need.
Has anyone seen this done? Where can I go for the resources I'll need to do this project? Help!

Go to a wrecking yard and buy a pair of doors with manual windows. Everything you need will be in them.

I haven't seen a 2000 Firebird with manual windows. I'm thinking the placement of the handle is going to be an issue, and that will require more expertise than just taking any door parts and drilling into my car.

I've never seen the inside of a 2000 Camaro/Firebird... I would have thought the base models would have offered manual windows still around that time but it looks like I'm wrong.
It is possible to design and build a manual system yourself. But it would not be straight forward or easy. I would suggest starting with 3rd gen parts since the doors are roughly the same size/shape.

My friends 99 camaro has crank windows so I'm sure u could find them in a firebird. They are probably hard to find tho.

Crank windows in 4th gens were rare and as of yet I know of no company who sells a kit for converting them. Your search may be futal my friend.

My window died again, and I think I found a local manual windows Firebird at a junkyard. From the handle inward, here are the parts to complete the swap with GM part numbers:
This is based strictly on my own research. Take note that manual window regulators are significantly more expensive than automatic window regulators. If you want to do this, you'll pay. My project depends strictly on whether I can get all of these parts for cheap. I also believe I'll need an interior door panel for each side or to drill a hole for the crank and add a custom bezel around the crank.

The effort and cost of all that is less money and hassle than replacing your motors?

Both my window motors are also broken. I am also curious though, is it really worth it? Additionally, I think your arm, as well as your passenger's arm, will be thanking you later on!

Come to think of it my 93 had crank windows. They are out there but unless you are buiding a full blown race car I don't see it being worth the trouble.

I may be wrong, but aren't crank operated windows heavier than the power optioned ones?
