Are we gonna have a new thread every time someone's Google Alert hits on "Camaro" and "fatality"? This is gonna get plenty morbid...

While I understand your point, I appreciate it when people post links to these articles.

I have customers all over the country and would want to know if something like this happened to any of them.

...maybe we could have a "Death Watch 2010" sticky at the top of the forum? You could also set up your own custom Google Alert(s)...

My father in law and mother in law were in a serious head on collision 15 years ago that was caused by a Scottish driver on the wrong side of the road. My mother in law could have died, was told she probably wouldn't walk again, then after years of surgeries and rehab is pretty much normal.
If that was the case in this accident it's a shame. Maybe there should be some sort of test for foreign drivers visiting the U.S. and driving rentals.

That is just horrible. My understanding is that the camaro got a 5 star crash rating EXCEPT for frontal crashes where it only received 4 stars. Please drive safely people.

Tragic. There were three wrecks in Salt Lake City this weekend as well with fatalities. Although the major one, five were killed, a Kid tried to pass going up a canyon in his Accord on a "no passing" zone and hit a Ford F-350 head on. All five in the Honda died.

I understand your point mhood. On the other hand, you have to click on a link to read the story. There are 40,000 + fatalities every year in the US. It is easy to get caught up in the fun and to forget that. Imagine 40,000 fatalities in ONE year in Iraq or Afghanistan.

There were a series of commercials back in the day I liked, they had something to the effect "You assume it will only happen to the other guy. But to the other guy, YOU are the other guy." Anyway, I don't know if it will bear up statistically but this seems like a particularly bad summer for accidents.

The biggest problem in front to front, or front to rear crashes revolves around impact bar height. Many SUV's impact bars are HIGHER than cars. From the outside the skins look to be big enough, but the impact bar is only 6 inches or so high. That other vehicles impact bar may have struck the engine causing things to go through the firewall and sending a much more abrubt shock through the cabin and occupants.

Also makes LOWERING a car more dangerous. Look at the height of the impact bar on a hummer as opposed to a Corvette.......and those were both GM designed!!
