I like the black best but where you live i wouldn't get black if its a daily driver will drive you mad trying keep it clean. Red for daily driver. Black for garage queen weekend cruiser.

I love my black 1LE but after keeping it clean with a few car washings a week and daily car dusting I may have bought another color. It's only my 6th black vehicle because it's soooo badass when clean and I never learn!!!!

Black looks great... Until it leaves the driveway or an hour after the wash/wax. Way to much work washing, clay baring, waxing, the constant dusting.

On the flip side, detailed my red hot on the 23rd, and on Christmas Eve drove 9 hours to the Keys. It's been five days, about 15 rain showers, dusty gravel roads everywhere and now with over 800 miles on the clock since it was last cleaned. Besides a few water spots on the glass it looks just as good as it did before I left.

Red is a low maintenance color overall and looks great with the 1LE package.

is red faster? Proof

(its on the internet so it must be)

"You know don't you, that all paint (everything, in fact) is made up of little, tiny molecules with microscopic spaces in between them? Well, in normal paint the molecules are "largish", and the necessary gaps in between are larger to accommodate them. In red paint and aircraft paint, the molecules are extremely tiny and so are the gaps between them. This gives a lot smoother finish to the paint and reduces the drag even further than just the gloss finish of the vehicle paint. It's one of the reasons why aircraft paint is so different to normal vehicle paint. I don't know why red paint is the same, apparently when they were making it there was something in changing the colour that caused the molecules to change size too. Reducing the drag also reduces the amount of fuel used and, in aircraft, increases the lift.

^^^nice find.

I have a question. Doesn't that all go down the toilet once you factor in the clear coat they add over the paint??

Unless of course, GM uses the 1 step process that BMW used in the 80's with Standox paint, where clear and paint colour were mixed as one?

Also can't help but notice, how many aircraft out there are dirty, with carbon deposits on the fuselage right behind the engines. So much for optimum slicing through the wind .

I went black because I liked the blacked out look and the contrast with the matte black hood looked amazing. My friends joked that I either stole the batmobile or bought a stealth fighter. I do plan on tinting the windows to complete the black look.

As far as care, Turtlewax makes products specifically for black cars. A friend of mine referred me to it and he uses it regularly. The appeal for him is that it does have a black dye in it that takes care of the swirl marks and minor imperfections as they show up. I bought a Turtlewax kit at the local Autozone in Cedar Rapids for $20. It's been too cold to polish but as soon as I get a chance can't wait to test this product.
