Bored? No way! Most days I drive in sport mode and use the tap shift (paddles) just to hear the down shift and to control the upshifts myself as the exhaust note on a 5500 rpm upshift is intoxicating. Haven driven manuals exclusively before, I can ensure you will not be bored unless you want to.

Once it gets the 8 speed auto it will be even better! Better gas mileage and better acceleration. I love my 8 speed auto in my V6 Charger so if the GM 8 speed is anything like it you will be in love. It does hunt for the highest gear but if you put it in sport mode it holds onto the gears longer and doesn't hunt. I avg 24mpg with mostly city driving, on the hwy its pretty easy to get 30mpg.

I'm not going to race the car or track it or even daily drive it. A manual would typically be my first choice but it's such a great deal on this car with every other option I want I just don't know if it's worth passing up.

I will say this I'm not overly impressed with the clutch in our Camaros and the driveline is also jerky with the manual. My Z06's have been much smoother.

My biggest concern is if I will become bored with it?

I use to be one of those guys that if you didn't drive a manual you were a pansy. I was dead set on getting a manual ZL1, but like you the deal I found on my car was to good to pass up. I don't regret it one bit. Is there times I miss a manual, sure, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

I am new to owning the ZL1 but like it so far and do not regret getting the auto over the stick.

I would not be concerned with the loss of HP going to an automatic. The auto is geared more aggressive than the manual and makes up the HP difference. That is why it is a better 1/4 car than the stick. I have seen first hand how a auto CTS-V sedan making 550rwhp was dead even with a 600rwhp manual sedan roll racing (In Mexico).

I have had manuals in my previous cars, 03 Z06, 07 Z06, 11 GT500 and I am tired of rowing! The auto stock is good, tuned is even better. The main reason I bought the ZL1 is because of the auto, if not I would probably still be in the GT500.

I guess there is one advantage the stick has over the auto... the price if you are buying new.

It's nice that GM offered both.

So this would be a first for me.

Is there any negatives to an Auto vs Manual in a ZL1? I know the differences in LS3 & L99 cars. But are the Z's different between the two?

I seen the ZL1 Verts have speed limiters and no PTM modes. SO there not all created equal so to speak.

Thanks for the info guy's!
All ZL-1 at least, verts have a speed limiter .

All ZL1's have a speed limiter, it's just that the one for the Verts is set to a lower speed (155mph) due to the fabric top.

I had a 2011 SS with the manual and now have a 2013 SS auto. Yes paddle shifters are fun to play with, but the biggest difference is how the car feels when accelerating. An auto, whether using the paddles or not has a linear rate of acceleration. With a manual you "feel" the car pull each time you change gears. To me that is what makes a manual more fun and enjoyable to drive.
I have a 2015 ZL1 ordered. With a manual!!

That's funny because I watched Snappy go 212mph in a Gen5 Camaro SS convertible with the top up at the Texas mile in March.

Doubt you would get bored. In my Auto s/c camaro I never get bored, I can't imagine ZL1 auto owners would be anything different.

I have same reasons as others...spend most of the time on the road with this bad boy so the 87,000 miles on my car would be tough to come by in manual. Los Angeles traffic suuuuucks!

Unfortunately, the "fast list" only covers drag racing. I will concede the auto is better for drag racing but that is not the only time people go fast....
