Supposedly GM wouldn't certify the top above 155mph. Just another CYA. My hat's off to Snappy

There are a few manuals on the fast list....
just because it comes from the factory with a 155mph limit doesn't me you can't remove the limit with a tune and drive it as fast as you'd like.

back when the ZL1 Verts were announced, I ran into Al Oppenheiser at a local car show and asked him if it was true the Verts would be limited to 155mph and he confirmed it. I also asked him if it was because of the top and he confirmed that as well.

personally I would be bored with an auto after a few months. I would be always asking myself questions I would never be able to answer, and all the what "if's" would pile up to high for me to deal with. I had a 94 trans am with an auto in it, and I really did find a way to have fun in it, but not as much fun as a manual can give you.

I guess GM wanted to be over cautious with top.... The real kicker is Snappy forgot to put his passenger side window up on a pass he went 207 mph..... He went 207 with the passenger window open and it didn't phase the top, but the pressure differential cracked the base of his windshield.....

My point is, if you have a convertible, I would not worry too much about the top holding up if you choose to remove the limiter... After what I've seen Snappy do, It looks like a pretty tough convertible top.
