Engine making metallic whine/whistle around 35-40mph with foot on gas?
So my 2012 2LT has 5500 miles and almost since day one the engine seems to make a metallic noise/ whine around 35-40mph while my foot is on the accelerator. The noise immediately stops when I take my foot off and coast or increase my speed. The interesting thing is that the noise comes and goes. Its present some days and non existant others. Is this common for the V6 engines? Or should I be worried?

My old one did this every now and then. Could never duplicate it for the service shop. Is your a manual or automatic? It would do it while coasting around those speeds, while feathering the throttle.

On my 2013 my enigine makes a metallic sound when idleing in my garage. Currently I don't notice any engine whine when I hit the gas. but then I admit I just got back from a trip to Arizona and so my baby is getting a rest. Besides that I'm kinda upset cuz in front of me a dude kicked up a box and my car ran over it and not underneath my lower lip between the tiny spoiler and the leading eduge of the bumper has a scratch on it. No one can per-say ever see it until it hoisted on a lift or someone bends down and looks underneath. I guess it's part of life when driving on the highway. Mail Clerk |

Sorry to hear about this occurrence and I understand any frustration this causes. While I understand you're seeking community opinions and responses, feel free to message me privately (if you feel an official GM diagnosis is needed) and I'll reach out to the necessary dealer's customer care specialist who is the best solution to resolving customer issues at the dealer level. Regards, William R. Chevrolet Customer Care |

Update: Still having the noise issue, doesn't matter if the outside temp is warm or freezing.
My car also recently started to have the torque converter issue where my car shutters and feels like its going over rumble strips around 40-50 mph. This is also inconsistent and comes and goes just like that metallic whine noise I get. Hopefully I can replicate both when the local stealership takes a look. I also have a tiny spot of rust on my door near the passenger side view mirror. So I think its definitely time for a stealership visit this month at some point. |

It's easier to live with than this noise: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=340298 which the dealer claims they don't hear. |

But damn that rattle you have would drive me nuts. I cant believe the dealer can't hear that. Did you you show the service manager in person? |

It is annoying you are right on the money there. The "Service Manager" decided he didn't hear it anymore (after 2 techs heard it previously and replaced the same converter). He also decided to let me know that I am unrealistic in expecting this noise (and any others) to be fixed and that "Chevrolet won't be sending us a whole new chassis to install for you." Nice huh? |

Update: The Torque Converter replacement definitely got rid of the shutter. However the metallic whistle is still present as described in my OP. I'm really going to have to figure this out myself. My dealership is nice, but they aren't that helpful, and since it took them over a week to replace the TC I dont want to take it back in. |
