Angry noise -trans or clutch

I got rid of my 2010 R.S., that had 5,000 miles as i hated the man, trans.-was like driving a 1985 S/10 2WD Pickup/-lol .--currently found a sweet deal on a 2010 SS,with 2,000 miles for 29,000, and i love it.--Only thing now is the noise i hear.-in neut, and let clutch out with windows up there is some what i call throw out bear noise ???, which ive been ignoring, but now the major rattle ?- which i describe as loose exaust clamp type noise, or cat conv insides have come apart.- seems it is more evident if you are on gas lightly like your conserving fuel or driving like a old man.- happens the most when going from 1 to second,-went to dealer today that will agree to look at, and they drove with me and at that time was fine. -- im thinking the rattle is pressure plate, but i thought i ask,, and what is normal amount of noise when you let out clutch in neut, that i here with windows up ?? - goes away when you push clutch in.- does the SS have a commom problem with these

Yeah they're noisy trannys; same for the mustangs, vipers, etc that use these trannys. Its tough to type on the internet what "normal" noise is as it varies with each person. I can say I've driven/owned 5 different manuals and none ever had noise like this one at low speeds disengaging. I don't normally get any noise when just cruising very slow in 1st. Only when I depress the clutch.

Get a real loud exhaust then you'll never hear it.

Carl, what you might want to do is to get into contact with our Customer Assistance team so they can help you in working with your dealer. Also you could try suggesting that your dealer check with our Technical Assistance team to see if there's anything in our database that might help with this. If you need help contacting Customer Assistance let me know.

This is a very well known issue. There are several threads about the clutch rattle noise. According to GM, this is normal operation, and they will not fix it. That is what my dealer said, as well as several others...

None at all, only took about 300 mile approx and all started and is getting worse.- I PREDICT IT WILL BLOW UP LIKE A GRENADE BEFORE THE DEALER CAN GET IT IN 3 WEEKS. [SORRY FOR CAPS] -- Car Has been babied since it was new, never even saw rain, and me and my wife drive it like were a couple of 60 year olds, lol,, and the trans is fallen apart.- and shifter is so loose i expect it to fall off.-- I THINK GM SHOULD AuTHORIZE a R & R,, under my condition and car only having 4,000 mile.-It's-def poor workman ship issue for sure ON GM.--Where i work, [chrysler] if i bought say a new chalenger right now and i got to 4,000 miles and had this issue it would deff be a R&R ,,as chry wants alot of this stuff back so as to take it apart and find out what went wrong and to correct the issue . for customer satisfaction,,,so as to actually fixing isues and not just having a dealer take apart and replace parts, and never finding out what is causing the issue's in first place..-- guess gm doesnt care about what they need to do to fix the manule tran;s issues except for,, just have a tech, r&r parts.------I myself have worked for V.W, Ford, and now Chrysler [21 years] --and they all would if there was issue with say thier man tran in a certain veh, they would want the tech to R&R, untill they [engineers] found the problem;s and corrected ,then they would let the dealer fix the tran's with the up date of what to do to fix correctly, -not just throw new parts in just like what came out.--After working next to many tech's the worst thing i hated was one that thru parts at a veh one after another, untill he/she got it right.--And thats all gm is doing with our issues

Well waiting for the dealer may not be the worst thing...if it does in fact grenade then you will probably get a whole new transmission. To me though it sounds like the throwout bearing is howling or the clutch pressure plate is loosening up. Chances are it will get a new throwout bearing and pressure plate and clutch disk. How does it shift? If the transmission shifts fine and this is just in the clutch assembly, then that is all they should replace IMO.
