Roof Mouldings

My roof mouldings are lifting in the front. I want to replace them with something that will last. Anyone have a opinion on this? Thinking maybe just some simple side moulding. Whats on there now was painted to match the car(black) not only are they lifting but the paint is cracking on them badly. Paint on the rest of the car looks new.

I have body colored ( gloss black ) roof moldings. Mine have gotten fladed to all hell. temporarily I have them wrapped with some gloss carbon vinyl I had laying around from another project. not the best, but looks good enough for now

Unfortunately the only option right now is OEM though I think they changed the design to address the breaking and lifting issues we all have/had.

I’d love to know the part number on these if you can still get them from GM as OEM parts?

The newer OEM design I bought almost two years or less ago to replace my old moldings are JUNK as well. The new moldings are now cracking in the front by the windshield and lifting again just as my old moldings did. Also the new smaller metal clip design they now sell separately do not hold the moldings in place securely enough compared to the old plastic clip design. The plastic clip design was much better in my opinion because it was longer and held better. I may have to get Plastic JB Weld and secure the cracked area and use touch up paint to cover it. The rest of the molding has a carbon fiber strip on it. All in all it is a disappointment still.

There are two different part numbers. 92225861 is for primed moldings if you want to get them painted. 92217614 is for black plastic and is not suitable for painting.

Thanks for the info everyone. My 2011 body colour mouldings aren't lifting but the paint has gone to crap. Might just paint them and see if I can get another 13 years out of them.

Just an fyi, they become very fragile due to age so if you try to remove them they will break. If you want to repaint them, you will need to do so with them still on the car.

OK that is what I was thinking. Maybe a light scuff before painting. Painters tape on either side to prevent a wayward brush stroke?

I would tape off the sides of the moldings then cover the rest of the surrounding areas of the windows on all 4 corners and the middle section of the roof then give it a good color gloss spray then spray it with clear.

If not you could always cover them with Vinyl Carbon Fiber. That's what I did.
