Heritage Grille SS emblem, old skool

I got my grille and I had time to fit an emblem onto it. Since I am doing the 68/69 SS emblems on my camaro, i.e., fenders & tail panel, I thought it would be perfect to have it on the front grille also.

Here is my mod:

Emblem is a 70-73 Camaro emblem. I chose this one because it has alignment tabs near the posts and it rests in the heritage grille perfectly between slots.

Studs were pretty long, so I trimmed off about an inch.

I plan to trim down the rear mounting brace so it is not noticable from the front.

I will get up more pictures when I install the emblem and the grille on the car. Car is currently in storage since I am in NY and we get terrible snows following by salty roads.

BTW: Anyone want to buy an SLP SS grille insert? Mine is for sale now.

A couple updates.

I switched the white inlay to silver and clearcoated it to make it shine and protect it.

I trimmed the back plate down and mounted the emblem to the grille.

Can't notice the backing plate even from looking head on.

I can't wait to get it in my camaro.

Looks good. My 69 emblem is sitting on the work bench waiting for the grille to arrive.

Thanks everyone, it wasn't too hard to do. One thing you will have to do is flatten the emblem a little. The older grilles had a 135 degree angle to them, so the emblem will have to be bent just a little bit to open it up 10 degrees. You do it in stages very slowly and keep checking the fit. You don't have to bend it much to make it fit. It you go to far it may crack. I did the same thing for my rear tail panel using a grill emblem, but shaving the posts off and I got the correct angle.

Now once you flex the emblem to contour correctly to the grille, you will have to longate the holes a little bit on the rear mounting bracket. You can see I ovalized the holes in the one picture. Not by much just a little to the outside of each hole to allow the posts to come thru.

You can use any 68 or 69 grille emblem. I used one I had left over from a 70-72 SS grille I bought new a couple years ago.

They have them on E-bay:

I didn't fill in the deep parts on the emblem, I just put 3M on the emblem and trimmed it around the edges and stuck it on the back. You could fill it in for a nice flat area for the 3M to adhear too.

It does cover the holes in the trunk lid easily.
